Wow - One year has gone by since my One-Step Jpouch surgery. I am so glad it is 2007 and not 2006. I was absolutely miserable in the hospital and in so much pain. I pray that I never have to go through an experience like that again.
I had surgery due to the discovery of dysplasia and early colon cancer, due to 15 years of UC. I am so thankful to have caught this in time at such an early stage!! I am also VERY thankful for Jpouch.org. What an amazing website. I do not know how I would have gone through recovery without it. I had and still have so many questions, and miraculosuly the answer is always here! I also am thankfully to all the kind people who have responded to my posting, chatted with me, and PM'ed me. After a rough year of strictures, pouchitis, pain, butt burn I now eat whatever I want and go to the bathroom around 6-8 times a day. I exercise regularly and never fear for a bathroom. Things are not perfect, but considering the condition I was in a year ago, I am now happy with my progress. It amazes me how the body can recovery and heal over time. Any other recent anniversaries out there? Keith |

That's wonderful Keith! Right around my one year mark I was feeling a lot better too. It was an amazing difference - night and day.

Hi Keith . . . congratulations on your one year anniverary!! I'm glad to hear you are doing better - I know you've had a tough year. I'm sure your positive attitude has helped tremendously. I don't post that often, but we exchanged PMs back in March. I was gearing up for a possible one step J-pouch surgery and you gave me tons of great advice and were very honest about what I could expect. Like you, I was DX with dysplasia and my "normal" life was turned upside down when the docs told me my colon needed to come out.
Well, to make a long story short, things didn't go as planned. I had lots of complications during and after surgery and I ended up with a permanent end ileostomy. Yesterday was my 6 month anniversary and life is good again!! It's been a rough summer, but I am so grateful that the "bad cells" were found in the early stages and that I am now cured of UC and colon cancer. It's definitely been an adjustment, but Lilly (my stoma) and I have bonded and now we get along just fine :-) I wish you all the best and hope you continue to improve. Jennifer |

Congratulations!
Hey, you're going to feel just as great announcing the next big anniversaries- five, ten... Keep it up! "Music is nothing separate from me. It is me- you'd have to remove the music surgically"-Ray Charles (and I've had enough removed surgically, don't you think?) |
