Well I am back. Things went ok. Since I was having the EGD at the same time I was sedated pretty heavily and still drugged up now. I had it with the GI that I have been seeing 16 years for my UC. He had them push 80 demeral and 2 versed as we were talking about gas prices and a few minutes later I asked the nurse "did you give me anything yet" and she said "well yeah, aren't you feeling it?" So they pushed some more and I kept talking to my GI and the last thing I remember was him looking a little suprised and giving the nurse a thumbs up for some more. I thought that was funny.

So - I don't remember any of the scope whatsoever. But - the good news is that my esphogus looked good and my J pouch was ok too. There was some inflammation but no sign of pouchitis. And he doesn't seem to think there is any sign of dysplasia but will call in 2-3 days to go over path results.

I am so glad that this is behind me! Thanks for your enouragement.

Rick

I'm so glad that's over Rick. I've been thinking about you and waiting for your update. It was great to see you last night, and I'm so happy you got good news today. So, now go sleep for a while, and enjoy the rest of your day.

Cataja,

No - This was done locally. I will only return to Mayo when I am required to for the clinical trial. My local GI has been caring for me since I was 13 and he does a great job so I will stick with him. And today went pretty well - and like the fact that he takes 5 minutes after the procedure to talk over the results. So, it might be awhile again before I'll be able to meet you for lunch!! Smiler

Pathology results are in. They confirm low grade pouchitis. And there is no evidence of dysplasia (thank God!).

The treatment my GI wants me on is to start taking VSL #3. I found that interesting, but I will give it a try and see what happens. And the funny thing is that I don't really feel like I'm having any big problems.

Anyways, I just wanted to finish up the post with the results. The whole process was not as bad as I thought and again it turns out I was apprehensive for no reason. I do feel much better about everything now - even given the results of low grade pouchitis.

Thank you all once again for the feedback and encouragement.

Rick

Rick, I'm so happy everything went well. I had everything crossed for you. Hope the VSL clears up the pouchitis for you.

Rick - glad to hear everything went well. It's been a long time since I have posted - but I still lurk around to make sure everyone is doing well. I'm getting ready for my 1st scope back with my GI - I went to Grand Rapids last year. Lisa

Hi Rick,

Good news about the path results! Smiler

I had a lot of success with keeping my pouchitis at bay with VSL#3. Without it I don't think I would have been able to function for the last 2 years with my j-pouch. I would imagine that your doctor is on the ball if you are only showing mild inflamation.

Start out slowly with them and increase gradually to avoid that bloated feeling when you first go on them.

Take care and thanks for the update. Smiler
