I am playing in my first ice hockey game tonight since I had all in one J-Pouch surgery completed on 8/1/06. Ridiculously excited! Rock on Drs. Bauer and Gorfine!

Brian,

Awesome! Hope you had a blast and your team won. In the next few months, I will soon make a RAVE posting about my first racquetball game since surgery on 9/29/06. I love that sport! I am now active, but want to be fully healed at the risk of a ball hitting my stomach at full speed.

I actually had the luxury of seeing Dr Bauer today in the Mount Sinai Operating Room. I had to have a surgical dilation today to fix a stricture. I felt fine when I woke up and feel much better this evening.

I am in awe on hockey players, staying up on skates, watching out for defenders and trying to push a small puck around- that is talent.

But I also have to say no other sport equipment stinks like hockey players pads and helmet- bleech!

Anyway, Congratulations! I wish you lots of great games and good times to come.

Brian,

Great news! I hope that you have a good time! It was tough for me to get back on the ice, but I didn't push myself hard enough at first either.

It's starting to look like we have enough J pouch ice hockey players around here to have an annual 'J pouch Hockey game.' Wouldn't that be fun? I know of several other competitive players that are semi-regulars here, and they've all done well getting back on the ice. I was hoping to meet up with one of them for a tournament in Arizona last year, but couldn't make it. I played college hockey, but it has been tough for me to get back into game shape since surgery. I'll have to keep working on that!

Let us know how the game goes. What position do you normally play? Is it a full contact type of game?

Rick

CONGRADS~ I was all hooked up in March last year and started playing again I would say november... I will say this ... I am a stay at home D man (Lazy lol) and was so great to play again. I did notice I was out of shape at first (thank god I wasnt a Center) but came back fast. We play in a B+ adult league with some college teams and its check and all is fine. Start slow, listen to your body and take it from this D man.. skate with your head up!!! LOL congrads...
Rick,
That would be great to get some kind of team and enter a tourny (team of most jpouchers)... we do it a lot for the state police here where we play in tournys in the surrounding states!

*** On a funny note... I am the Capt. of the team for about 6 yrs now and when I came back they had a -C on my jers... they said it now stands for Minus Colon LOL!

Hey guys. Nice to hear from everyone, including the stay at home D- man. I play center and it took the wind out of me, backchecking and what not. I felt pretty good out there, (1g,1a) so that was cool. Not getting any younger at 31, but I can still keep up with most 20 yr olds!

Hey Jason, where in PA are you? You play in a checking league? Wow, that's gotta hurt going to work the next day, no? College yes, but nowadays I give you credit Minus Colon! Ha! Later guys.

Brian

From the Poconos (north east pa)... Its hockey town. Withing 45 min there are about 5 rinks and I have season tickets for the AHL Penguins over the last 5 years.
I am 36 and not as fast as those 20 year olds... However I know my position and that helps make up for my heavy legs Smiler
Congrads on the game and welcome back to the best game there is.
PS. I use to buy my vehicles from Eckenhoffs (Cherry Hill Nj) What part are you from?

I am not a hockey player but give you guys all the credit for getting out there on the ice and getting it done. However, I was a pretty good basketball player and golfer and high school and hope to get back to those things not long after my takedown. You don't realize how much sports and hobbies mean to you until they are taken away! Well again hope I can be playing sports like you guys.

Glad to see you are playing the greatest sport in the world. I had my colon removed 10/00. Second surgery was 1/01 and take-down was 6/01. Before surgery I was also playing Ice Hockey. I never thought I would be able to play after surgery, but am happy to say I play as often as I can find the time. I play goalie and my fear was I would not be able to leave the ice to go to the bathroom, but I have not had any problems, and love every minute of it. I am 37 and no, I can't keep up quite as well as the 20 year olds!Razzer
