I was just looking for some images for my book and I came across something that has me a little upset.

I was on Accutane my senior year of high school 17- 18 yrs old. I wasn't diagnosed with UC until I was 20 but is it possible that med could have triggered something.

I remember sitting there being advised about side effects and birth defects but never once was I warned that a bowel disease could develop.

I am looking into filing with a lawyer, I think it is a class action suit. I really have to look into it more.

Supposedly, there are actions because the drug caused depression, which lead to some suicides. And intestinal problems.

It never occurred to me to make the connection, but I took Accutane in my late teens and early twenties, and I was diagnosed with chronic ulcerative colitis in my early thirties.

Hmmm.

I am sure not if there is any connection, but I do know that IBD diagnosis often tends to peak in one's late teens and early 20's, when one is most likely to take accutane. So it could just be a coincide??? or maybe not?

I'm just curious as to what Accutane is. What is it taken for?

Of course, the real question would be (and for you to prove) is that you would not develop UC if it were not for the Accutane. Accutane certainly did not change your DNA. The thing is that there are multiple triggers for UC, and Accutane is now on that list. Was it a known trigger when it was prescribed? If so, then the one at fault would be your physician, not the drug.

I am not saying that you should not sue; that certainly is your right. Just make sure your attorney is up front with you about what you will have to deal with. In class action suits, the plaintiffs rarely get much of anything. The laywers are the only ones who make any real money.

Here is the CCFA article about Accutane:

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Jan, you are right. I keep thinking how I am going to "prove" it. The only reason I would sue would be to create some kind of awareness or spark a change because who wants someone else to have to go through all this if they didn't have to.
Granted it would be nice to get some of the money back that was put out to support my medical care throughout the years.
But in the end I guess being healthy now is all that matters!
