After a few months of feeling great, no issues, loving the Ostomy life the streak ended today. I woke up with blood pouring out off my butt, chills that turned into a 102 fever, and major aches.

I tried to go to work but had to turn around.

I guess my dysfunctional cuff felt like reminding me that it is still there…

I’ll get over it, and have been through much worse. But it totally sucks being hit out of the blue, makes me remember the UC and bad JP days (bad memories).

That also sounds quite a bit like salmonella. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Thanks for the replies. The bleeding stopped, but the fever persists. I also threw up once. Totally feel like a truck ran over me!

Talked with my surgeon and he thinks its a cuff / pouch flare (even though I'm not connected). So its my old friends Flagyl and Cipro for a few days.

Oh Bill! Not nice. I'm hoping that it's 'only a bug' sort of thing rather than something going wrong with the plumbing.

Please let us know how things go.

Feeling much better now, fever broke this morning. I have to go to New York on business for a couple days tomorrow so I have to feel better!

I'm not totally sure this was a cuff flare, when I had these in the past I was a mess for days. Mabey because I'm diverted I can rebound faster? Who knows?

My Dr. said that he as seen a lot of UC flares recently, and he said that sometimes during seasonal changes people get flares. Weird Huh! If I look back to my first two flares before I had my colon removed, they both occurred in the September / October time frame... seasonal change???

Our bodies are strange machines!
