I just wanted to put a Rave out there for my surgeon. In 1997 I was at UAB hospital on experimental drugs because my UC was so bad and couldn't be controlled. One month after diagnosis, my colon ruptured and I had emergency surgery performed at midnight by my hero...Dr. Gregg Shore. He wasn't even suposed to start work until the following week and didn't even know where the operating room was when they rushed him in.

I was his first patient and I almost died. But he did such a great job cleaning me out that I didn't even have a low grade fever after surgery. He saw me through all the steps of J-pouch creation and worked a miracle by repairing my R/V fistula thru a surgery similar to the graciloplasty. He also got to know my entire family well and genuinely cared about me and listened to me.

I sent him a letter after tracking him down (he moved out of state), thanks to the help of someone on this board. I was able to thank him for saving my life and giving me a good quality of life.

He recently called me to catch up with me and address a question I had about the possibility of having children. After all this time he said I was still about the worst case he's seen and I think it's a testament to his skill that I'm doing so well. And he told me that he would always have a bond with me as my surgeon and would always help me with any problems that may come up.
