I may have eaten something, or done something (what?) ... but I was doing so well a month ago when I was traveling back to Iowa to see my mom. I even started eating better, healthier, and then all of a sudden I get spasms and a return of that searing, inescapable pain! I am continuing to use my lidocaine/diltiazem ointment regularly, and I have been self-dilating ... but it seems that there is a mutiny against my efforts down there. And the pain is keeping me from sleeping well, from activity, and from even being able to cope without increasing my pain meds. And what is worse, I hate having this "here we go again" feeling ... you know the one that tells you "kiss good-bye the relative peace you had before, because things are getting worse." It seems whenever something regresses, I never quite make the progress I need to get back to where I was before.
Looks like I am back to my unexciting, unhealthy, and uninspired diet of bland, smooth and nonirritating food. The variety of foods I can eat without irritating the bum is growing smaller and smaller all the time . . .
I just needed to rant . . .

Deb, I wish I had something else to offer you in the way of suggestions, but it seems like you have already read (or written) the book on the topic. I hope your diet change and ability to rant helps get you back on track.
Oh wait, there is one thing. Have you tried Dermawheat? There have been some people who healed some of the most stubborn fissures with this stuff. http://www.grassfactor.com/cream.htm

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.
