Horrible stories. Just horrible. This is about the ostomy, so not UC, per se, but it still chaps my hide. One of the many times Thomas had a bag leak or break--at age 10, in 4th grade, after being in the hospital nearly 5 months--I arrived at the school to find him alone, standing on paper towels in an outdoor breezeway, outside the main office door at the entrance of the school--because they didn't want anything dripping on the floor in the nurse's office. I was so focused on getting a towel around him and getting him into the car, I didn't think much about it at the time. Now there are so many things I would like to call this school district into account for--primarily their resistance to giving him a 504 plan, and their failure to provide any of the assistance it called for, for seven years--but with public school, the effort just seems overwhelming and ultimately pointless. He left high school after his sophomore year and is now in his second semester at JC.
