I have a friend who's boyfriend stole an entire bottle of percocet from her, either last year or early this year. I want to say it wasn't working for her and she got something different for pain. So he decided to help himself to the percocet. She confronted him, he admitted it, and swore it would never happen again.

She has thought it has happened since, but could never prove it. Last weekend she got a new prescription filled, took one, and three days later two more were missing. Again, she confronted him, and he admitted it. He says he knows he has a problem. But thinks he can handle it on his own. He has always had a alcohol problem, and a meth problem years and years ago. His favorite high now is alcohol and pot.

I'm thinking she needs to buy a safe and lock up her meds, which is really sad to have to do in your own home. She said she doesn't think she can trust him anymore. If he goes behind her back and does this, who knows what else could be going on. They have been together 8 years and living together 6 yrs.

Perhaps I hold my narcotics a little too near and dear to my heart. I was appauled by this.
I know whats it's like to be in pain and not have any meds.
Has anyone ever had their meds stolen???

I've had a bottle of vicodin stolen from me, among many, MANY other things by my brother (worst being the 1,000 he stole from my dad). He's never admitted it, but come on, who else would have done it. He's had a drug problem for years though. He hit rock bottom about 3 years ago on crack outside of boston, he's cleaned up a lot though, now he smokes pot constantly, which is probably the best he could do at this point. But, the past is the past, I've had bottles and bottles of pills in my room and he hasn't touched them....though he does steal my cigarettes all the time, but what can you do. He's gotten better, and I'm proud of the kid.

Though, I think people do need to hear this from a teenager, because I've seen it: painkillers are HUGE right now. If you do have them, they should be hidden or locked up, even if you trust your kids. Because you might not trust your kids' friends. Vicodin can be sold for about $3-4 a pill, oxycontin can go all the way up to $10 a pill. You can make a killing off them, and the easiest way to get them is to steal them.

This an interesting topic. I have had family/friend gatherings at my house, and afterwards found that some or all of my pills had been stolen out of my nightstand. I have no idea who the culprit was.

I rented a room for a couple of months in a house with people I did not know very well. Even though the door had a lock on it, one of them was still getting in and stealing the meds.

One other example was when I had gone on vacation. Over half the pills from all my bottles were gone. Housekeeping?

It is the worst feeling when you are in terrible pain and you go to take your meds and they are gone.

Now I have them in a secret spot. Only my fiance and mom know where to find them, in case I need them to get them for me. And have not had a problem since I started doing that.

I had a "friend" ask me if she could have a bottle of vicodin, she knew I had them but I didn't tolerate them. Kind of freaked me out when she asked....uh, not sure but I think its a federal offence to give narcotics to anyone other than perscribed for...I blamed my doc, said it was our policy that if I couldn't tolerate something, I always bring it back to him( which, actually was truth.) I felt bad not giving them to her, but equally bad that she asked me.

Moving companies are the worst too... when my cousin was in college he worked for a moving co and he'll tell you the first thing they do is check the medicine cabinets. So, a little tip...if you're planning to hire a moving co, gather up your meds and store them safely.
I had someone ask me for xanax and pain meds before. I avoided her question and she never asked again. Thank goodness. I hope she was embarrassed.
And yes, it's illegal to give someone else your narcotics.

My husband's ex-girlfriend stole his mom's tylenol 3 (it had codeine) when they were dating. She had a huge drug problem.

If you can't tolerate a medicine, why not just take it back to the pharmacy and ask them to dispose of it? Thats what I do with all the meds I don't use and all the over the counter drugs that are expired. That being said I still have all the percocet and other painkillers (with the exception of the fentanyl patches since I gave them to my girlfriend's sister who was dying of cancer at the time.) left over from the surgeries in case I need them. Only my husband and I know where they are.
