AGH!!
This is not all that important in the big picture and in light of the problems others have but I have to share and get this off my chest and see if anyone has any advice or insight.

I had my gastrografin xray last week, after calling the doc's office three times, the nurse told me the xrays looked good, no leaks! Yippee!! So I asked when they would schedule the surgery. The office is changing the person who does the scheduling of surgeries. What is a reasonable amount of time to expect a surgery to be scheduled? The doctor told me we could do it in June. Is there something I'm not doing that I should be doing? I know they are sick of me calling and the nurse keeps reassuring me that I will be scheduled asap. I could go in tomorrow if they asked me to. I guess I just feel like I'm spinning my wheels waiting. What if there are complications...agh! I feel like time is just ticking and I won't be ready to go back to work at the end of August.

I have been out of work since August and have to be ready to go back by the end of this August. I am anxious to have my takedown so I can heal and get adjusted to my new system, I also have some other things that need to happen over the summer but I'm unable to schedule them.

Thanks for letting me ramble.
Les

You ramble all you need. The wait is hard. All I could think of was getting it OVER!
Hope they call soon, and I wouldn't worry too much about the staff getting tired of hearing from you.....they are not the ones with the knife.
Hope all goes well!

Less - the takedown surgery is not nearly as big of a surgery as the emergency surgery that you had or J pouch surgery - so your recovery time should be much much easier.

But - I feel your pain - you want to have it done asap and I would be frustrated if I couldn't get a date too! Maybe it is worth asking if another surgeon could do it sooner?

Thanks Lori and Rick!

I called the office again yesterday and ended up in tears on the phone with my original nurse and she went ahead and scheduled the surgery for me. Turns out the doctor cleared my results on Tuesday and it was Wednesday when I called. The new girl wasn't going to be in until Friday to start scheduling. BUT I think the old girl felt so bad because I was so upset that she hung up, called back 5 minutes later and had a date for me, July 14. That gives me 7 weeks for recovery and to get adjusted and ready for work. Will that be enough time to start feeling regular with number of bm's?

AGHHHHHH!
THanks
Les

PS I love my surgeon and trust him very much so I will wait until he can do it.

Hi Les,

I understand where you are coming from, I my pouch created in November '07, I live 6 hours drive away from my surgeon and hospital.

I just had a scoping of my stomach by a Gastro specialist and I cant see him for another 10 weeks or around when my Reversal is scheduled. I have spent nearly every day this week on the phone trying to find out when it looks like my reversal will be and to schedule this other appointment.

So the story so far is that the ball is in my J-pouch specalist hand of what dates I preferred of having surgery, I am too busy with our volunteer emergency service with heaps of rescue courses that I am required to do very soon and my daughter is playing tackle football for our town and school.

So I am assured by the booking officer the hospital that I should have a date for my surgery by end of next week, i dont care if I have to wait another 12 months, the waiting does not worry me, but I have been told that I have to wait for a minumum 6 months before reversal, it is 7 months now, so much for in hospital within 90 days which was up end of last month, which there was nothing scheduled at all till now. All I want to know how much longer i will be waiting till I hear a date.

If it was not for this Gastro appointment I would not know what was happening nor would I have gotten this far, putting a bomb underneath them to get things going.

After i saw my surgeon and got the ok that we could go ahead and do the takedown anytime in the next two weeks or month. I was pleasantly surprised. I kept waiting and waiting for the schedule people to call with my surgery date but i didn't hear anything after waiting two weeks.

A phone call to the hospital and to the surgeons office and it turns out that the paper work hadn't even been delivered yet. Nearly three weeks behind now and because of the timing (almost summer) it was looking more and more like i would have to wait another two months before i got in for the operation.

Luckily i was able to phone the scheduling nurse when the paperwork arrived and tell her my story, makes some jokes and promise a bottle of wine if she got me in early and what do you know but my surgery was on for two weeks later.

I am pretty sure i didn't 'buy' off the nurse but i think being nice on the phone got me scheduled a little quicker than normal.

So don't feel bad about always phoning, it is your health you are trying to fix.

Mike
