First I would like to thank everyone for their kind words, prayers, thoughts, love and support. I am overwhelmed by your kindness. Also, thank you to those that sent cards, flowers and plants. It helped me get through this week.
I tried to prepare myself and my family for this surgery, but neither I nor Dr. Milsom expected it to be so invasive. It was to be a 2 hour surgery that turned into 6 hours of waiting for my family. Thank you to those of you that spoke to Tracy on the phone and in chat that day and helped reassure her. She told me that everyone would help me and things would be ok.... All of you calmed her and made her feel better and I can't really tell you what that meant to me. A little about the surgery... Instead of the intestines going in a coil-like direction, just above the pouch it made a sort of loop, and scarred into the pouch, causing somewhat of a partial blockage. He also had to cut out alot of adhesions. He took the pouch and part of the intestnes and attached it to the ileostomy and attached that to the tail bone. I was concerned that it would fall again after takedown, but he said now he knows I make scar tissue, and that scar tissue will hold the pouch in place. He drew an illustration and explained it all to my family, but I haven't really had the mindset this week to fully understand it. That's for my next appointment....lol My husband did ask why it happened....and there is no answer. It's just one of those things, not very common though. Dr. Milsom was very happy he had decided to do the surgery and is very optimistic that after takedown, my pouch will work as well as it did before. I am so glad that he found something mechanical that could be fixed. I will probably have the ostomy between 3 and 6 months, but again, that's a question for later. It was a rough surgery, and there were alot of up and downs this week, but yesterday....I turned that corner and today I am home. So, I think it's all behind me now and I will just concentrate on getting my strength back. I'm sorry this post is getting so long....but I have a few more things to say....lol I received so many calls from my friends here, and I don't want to leave anyone out, please know that your kindness and support will not be forgotten. Judy, my friend, you helped me through my first surgery, and here you are again..... Jason, your humor and friendship has gotten me through some tough times this year, especially this week. Thank you to both of you for updating everyone. Ok, that's it, I am happy to be home and I look forward to catching up with all of you soon, Be well, my friends, Love, janna |

Janna, glad you are home and can sleep in your own bed again! I guess this all goes to show that no matter how many scopes and diagnostic studies you have, sometimes the only way to find out what is going on is to actually open you up and look. We put a lot of faith in diagnostics, but as a head's up to others out there-- if all your tests keep coming up negative, but you still feel like crap, keep pushing for an answer.
Take it easy Janna! Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |

Janna!!!
It's good to hear that you're home now and that there was as you say a "mechanical" reason for your difficulties. Now, rest up and relax!!!! Rick ---------------------------------- KAAAAAABOOOOOOOOOOOOM!! |

Janna!
Welcome back Home! Isn't that a great feeling. The first night home from the hospital, my own bed was so comfortable that I slept 12 hours!! - so I hope you do the same. You have been through a great deal, but it seems like Dr Milsom did as expected and even more! I am sorry about having to have an Ostomy for 3-6 months, but you will be better than new in no time. You are so loved here on Jpouch.org - After all the support you have given everyone, it is now our turn! Like JasonPa said "eat some pizza", let us know when you have your first slice of Good Old Staten Island Pizza! Then I will know you are ready to move forward. Take Care of yourself. Keith |
