Antibiotics really mess things up...

The only thing that has been bad lately is I am on antibiotics for an ear infection(waterparks and swimming a lot) and the antibiotics make it like pouchitis...leaking/cramping/buttburn/not completely emptying. Sucks that it has to be a 10 day course - infection cleared up after day 4 but paying for it.
Everytime I go on antibiotics this seems to happen...does it happen to anybody else? What kind of things do you do to combat this?
Thanks
David

Which antibiotics are you having problems with? I have only used Zithromax post surgery and have had no problems with it. It has a much shorter dosing schedule. If you haven't tried that one maybe next time you can request it. I also usually double up on my probiotics too on the 2 occasions that I have had to take antibiotics.

Keflex is the name.
only 1 more day to go.
Last time I was on it got better 24-36 hours after last dose. Been doubling up on probiotics.

Seems to cause a yeast infection as well due to the more leakage ect... luckily I reconized it early and used the fungal cream - burns a little but cleared things up fast.
Thanks
David

So, I tried to search 'yeast infection' on the forum, but didn't find the answer to my inquiry. What are the symptoms of a yeast infection? Is it just itchiness, and how would a doctor diagnose it? We're dealing with major butt burn and a recent stint on antibiotics. I just don't want to overlook anything.

I have also had horrible butt burn most most of the five years since my take down in 2005. Doc just seems unsympathetic. Have tried over the counter yeast preps but I just picked up a tube of cloz....don't know how to spell it and it seems better already after two days. Sometimes I felt like my bottom was just shredded . It looked like the skin was so broken down and actually bleeds. Have not been on antibiotics any ideas of could be causing this ongoing condition?

I had serious yeast issues because of antibiotics and tried Candigone based on posts from others on this forum that had used it with success. It worked extremely well for me. You can google it and read about it in the forums. I think their website might seems a little hokey, but I've used it a couple of times with very good results. Yeast infections anywhere are no fun.

I battled a confirmed yeast infection caused by not rotating antibiotics earlier this year. Symptoms were itching and burning and a red rash in my groin and legpits. It is easily diagnosed by scraping the affected area and examining the sample under a microscope, which is exactly what my dermatologist did. Guys typically are prone to fungal or yeast infections known as "jock itch" in the groin and "athlete's foot" on the feet. I never had either of these conditions in my life and never had a problem despite 15 years on antibiotics. The reason I got it was I stayed on cipro and flagyl too long, thus killing all the bacteria in my skin and causing fungal overgrowth, plus I was not drying myself in those prone areas as well as I should have been after showering. Now I use a hair dryer.

My legpits were hit very hard, and it took me 3 months to get rid of it. The topical antifungal creams did not work at first. What turned things around was going off of cipro (and onto xifaxin which is not systemically absorbed) and taking antifungal pills.

It has not come back and I definitely do not want it to. I am using some antifungal powder prophylactically, but because I am on xifaxin right now I am not too worried. It is when you go on cipro and flagyl that the skin bacteria basically have a mass genocide committed against them and then the fungi PARTY - but that is one party that I do not want to crash again!
