Well, tomorrow I get to prep for my adhesion / maybe hernia surgery. I went to pick up that nasty phospho-soda swill at CVS only to discover they have created a lovely looking cherry flavor! I just can't wait to try it Smiler

I'm sure it will equally disgust me as before. I hope I don't puke.

Hello, I thought if you had a J pouch you should not drink Phospho-soda. I might be wrong, but when my husband had a stupid gastro do a scope on him, he drank something that started with phospho and he thought he was going to die. I hope that is not the same stuff. He swears his bottom was burnt from that point forward. Maybe someone can clear this up. I hope all goes well for you. Good Luck

The truth is that no one should ever drink that disgusting stuff.

I've had it before every surgery. I can confirm it doesn't do any permanent damage to your bottom.

Seriously, though... the only fear is for people with known kidney disease. And for those of us without kidney disease, we are supposed to drink a LOT of water with this stuff because it gets stuff to just run on out of you.

But as for not drinking it with a pouch - no different for pouchers than non-pouchers.

I always have magnesium citrate for my preps. The phospho soda is too briny for my tastes, makes me want to gag...Cherry flavor! Yeah, right... That's like adding cherry flavor to a pickle!

But the end result is the same, diarrhea with a capital D!

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Oh that stuff is NASTY!!!!

Both times I had to take it I puked the 1st bottle up.. ::Shutter::

Finally the last bottle I just drank it strait, not mixing it at all. I figure why prolong the torture longer than I have too!! Of course I drank lots of water after each sip.

You are so right, that stuff has ruined any taste for lemon lime flavor for me.
I gag just thinking about it.

Hope the cherry is a little better!

The last time I took phospho, it was the ginger-lime flavor, I mixed it with a strong ginger ale to get it down. I still can't dring ginger ale without getting queezy. YUK!
Cherry sounds terrible!

Have a fabulous day!

I have come to believe if the doctors look hard enough, they will find something wrong somewhere!

I'm so sorry you have to endure that prep! I still can't tolerate the lemon lime flavored drinks, nasty! The funny part is that I had many CTScans while I had my disease...now I work in a CTScan dept. Everytime I open the fridge to get the oral prep for a patient, I have flashbacks from the smell, and the tummy does flipflops! 22yrs later and it still makes me quiver! Good luck with it!

OMG that stuff is so disgusting!!! I'd love to have a few words with the sadistic weenie who dreamed it up. Eeker Wink

The only way I could ever get it down was to have the vile stuff in one hand and a glass of Listerine in the other. I'd hold my breath and take it straight from the bottle - try and get it down in one swallow and then immediately rinse & gargle with Listerine mouthwash. This worked for me all the way through the times I had to take it - until my takedown when I just couldn't do it anymore and I only got half of it down and then that half came back up REALLY REALLY fast. (My takedown went OK anyway).

Like everyone else my stomach is just churning at the thought of it.

Good luck today!!!

So ElmerFudd....
what's the verdict on the cherry flavor???? Is it better or worse?? We will probably all be faced with it again at some point, you'd think they could come up with something tasteless by now. We need to all start creating and experimenting so we can be the millionaires that created the first non-awful bowel prep!

T-minus 4 hours and counting...

I'll try and remember to log back on and let you know how the cherry flavor is. That's if I let myself taste it at all. Maybe I'll just throw it back and gulp it down.

Jan, I wish I could have the magnesium citrate. That lemon-lime stuff wasn't half bad compared with this oily swill.
