When I first talked to my Surgeon she said I would have my first surgery then the take down would be 3 months later. I said cool I'm fine with that. Today when I talked to her she said my next appointment would to talk about the surgery and then the the dye test then the takedown. Well I was shocked when she said see you in two months!! Two Months!!! If we're talking about three months between the two surgery then I should have my surgery on Nov 21st my next appointment is not till Dec 4th.

Hey Jessica -
I can understand your frustration. My very first surgery was on December 12th...on December 11th, my surgeon called the house and said, "we got your labs back - we're going to have to do this in three steps, instead of two". You can imagine how shocked I was to find out the day before my surgery that I was going to not only add another surgery, but add another three months to the process. In the end though, I was happy because my surgeon had my best interests at heart, as I'm sure yours does as well. Look on the bright side - you probably would have been in the hospital over Thanksgiving if you had surgery on Nov. 21st; now you can enjoy a nice big meal, and get your last surgery done right before the holidays. Good luck! Lisa |

Jessica,
I just read Cody's story and I am at a loss for words. I thought my son has been through so much until I read your story. Waiting for takedown is a good thing. Gives your body a little more time to heal. I believe that is why my j pouch has been successful for 20 years. They did things slower back then. Please take care of yourself and your new baby. |

Jessica,
I had my colon out Nov. 16, 1987 and was home for Thanksgiving.7 days in hospital. J pouch creation April 29, 1988 Takedown May 29, 1988. So I had the ostomy 6 1/2 months. My colon was very sick. I had UC for 12 years and avoided surgery like the plague. I was getting blood transfusions 2-3 times a week from all the rectal bleeding. Back then they didn't screen blood for AIDS either. I watch my diet anbd always have. I know some people on the site don't but I have never had pouchitis and I have never taken any meds since surgery. To each their own-right? |

Eww I hated the Blood Transfusions. I had to get two of them from my Emergency C-Section with Logan. They are no fun. I could not stand the coldness going into my arm. (my I.V was in my hand) ::Shutter:: Jessica 1st surgery done on 8/21/07 Had T.D On 12/31/07 |

I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am about your son, Cody. I visited your web page and your words brought me to tears. I lost my father to Ewing's Sarcoma on June 15, 2007. He was only 44. His cancer is so rare that only 15 adults in the U.S. have it a year. I can't even imagine the pain that you experienced with losing your son. Just know that Jesus will be with you every step of the way. I also saw that you have FAP which is the same thing I have. Should you ever need to talk, please feel free to IM me (I have AIM) and my screen name is MissPStar. I also hav a livejournal if you want to read my stories. www.livejournal.com/users/xxshadowxx God Bless you and I will keep you and your family in my prayers during this difficult time. -Nichole <3 *~*And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love*~* 1 Corinthians 13:13 |

I chose to wait an entire year between the first and second step because of scheduling. I wanted them both done during the summer when I was off work, teaching. I'm so glad I waited. The takedown was a breeze and during the year of having an ileostomy, I learned all the tricks of the trade in dealing with an ostomy. If I ever had to go back to having one, I know I could!
