Hi everyone,
I just thought I would share how I have done since my takedown on March 1st. It took me 4 days to get out of the hospital. Since being home, other than tiring a little to quickly and having a stupid (yet healing) hole where the ostomy was, I have felt wonderful. I never would have dared dream I would feel like this. I have used no pain meds or any immodium etc. No buttburn at all. I got the go ahead to try any food I wanted 2 weeks ago. No problems with absolutely anything! I had one small leak at night during my first week home. It was a case of, thought it was gas and OOOPPS...Other than that, I have total control. Things that have been next to impossible, such as day trips, going to the movies, or out to friends house for dinner, I have all done these past two weeks. No trips to the bathroom! It almost seems unreal. I feel so blessed. I am convinced I received from Dr Paul Vignati, my surgeon, his best work. All the prayers and well wishes from everyone pulling for me came through. My support next to me made all the differnce too.(Thanks Michele!) I hope this post helps others in their decision making, or gives hope if need be. Monique |

Monique,
So glad to hear that you are well on your way to complete health! It must be so exciting to be able to get out and about without having to worry about running to the bathrooms all the time. Take care of yourself and try to go slow with the new foods. Get lots of rest and have fun. ** Christine ** UC dx Oct 2003; Step 1 - 10/8/2005; TakeDown - 05/19/2006; pouchitis dx Dec 2006 The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace. Isn't it amazing- it's something I wasn't expecting either, after all those years of UC and the bag. But it almost felt instantaneous.

You are so right Kar.
After suffering for over 16 years myself with UC, I had completely forgotten what it was like to feel "normal". I feel so very, very fortunate. Keep enjoying every second of every day! Monique |

Monique, Great post. I am remembering the first time we met you and Jeff in chat. What a different person you are now. It is fullfilling to see you so happy and well adjusted. You have come a long way. You get out there and do all those things you have wanted to do for so long.
Happy life to you. Judy Some days we have to make our own sunshine. (my mothers favorite saying.) |

Monique, I am so happy that things are going so well. I remember how excited I was when I was able to take a walk on the beach without searching for the nearest bathroom. I, too had UC for many years, and have never felt as normal as I have with my j-pouch. Congratulations and I hope things only get better.

Monique;
I'm so glad you decide to post about your experience. Too often, there are negative posts due to the fact that every human is going to heal differently. Some have problems, for others things go smoothly! Those who have had good luck have moved on with life and forget that there are still others that need some positive stories to hear! I knew you would do well with your surgeries...as you have a positive outlook and you are a fighter! Plus...you had a great surgeon!! You also have a wonderful family that was there for you every single step of the way. (Hi Jeff and Jacob! Can't forget Mom and Memere too!!) Now...Monique...you can finally take the boxing gloves off. Sit back and enjoy the healing. Enjoy the times with friends and family that UC had robbed you of for so many years. Keep your food diary, get lots of rest, enjoy this time with the guys, as work is just around the corner! Keep smiling that beautiful smile my friend, even better times are yet to come! Michele You have to get thru the clouds to enjoy the sunshine |
