Are you kidding - Chunky soup????

hey there,
I know certain foods treat people differently but I was wondering if anybody else gets torn up by Campbells Chunky Soups? I eat them with saltines and lately they are as bad as tomato sauce or sugar. It doesn't matter which one. Yesterday it was beef barley but i've tried many others...
Wonder if they put a chemical in there that tears me up. I swear Pringles have a chemical that kills my stomache.
Getting tired of this diet crap(pun intended)
Why can't there be a more comprehensive diet plan for pouchers. I know - certain foods treat people differently but there must be someone studying this....
thanks for the room to rant - now back to the toilet. Funny how I have been popping tylenol 3 and percocet like candy(for 7 weeks now Wink) due to a broken arm/wrist I still get buttburn ect...

There very well may be. I haven't tried those soups but my rant is over fake sugar.

Manitol, xylitol, and sorbital are added to cough and cold medications. All of those fake sugars give me faucet-like diarrhea. However, none of the labels for these products list those ingredients and that's what sets me off. I have tried Robitussin, Delsym, NyQuil, and DayQuil along with just about every other liquid cough medication. It all gives me diarrhea so I tried Mucinex...the pill. Yep, even Mucinex has fake sugar in it. I can take the pill forms of Tylenol cough and cold and Claritin but I am out of luck if I get a cough because there isn't a cough medication out there, that works, that is free of fake sugar crap.

I wish the manufacturers of these products were required to list all the ingredients on their label. It would save me time, money, and mostly discomfort.

I haven't tried Campbells Chunky soup, but something in their creamy soups like their Cream of Chicken annoys my gut so I imagine it's the same thing. Some type of preservatives I guess. I used to have the worst trouble with Pizza Hut's pizza sauce, only Pizza Hut not other chains. I couldn't get out of the restaurant before it got bad. My Dr. suggested maybe I was allergic to MSG, but I know most of these soups don't have any MSG or claim not to. The pizza sauce doesn't happen anymore so they probably changed their recipe. I have the same issues as Sue with liquid cold medicines. The pill formulas like Dayquil or Nyquil liquid gels do better than the actual liquid in the bottle.

Food allergy reactions...it is not always the diet it self but the preservatives that they put into foods...I just got the rush & runs with low cal chocolate covered marshmellows...I call them marathon marshmellows because I have never run so fast in my life...but I also react to sulphides, sulphates and anything that looks like a hotdog...
Just keep the list going and make sure that you stay away from anything that you react to...reactions can ratchet up to something worse stay away...
Sharon

It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....

Maybe MSG? I have a friend who is allergic and it's in a lot of salty foods like chips and soups. Not sure if Campbell's uses MSG though.

Kathy,
I slipped on ice and snapped my arm/wrist on Dec 12. Needed a plate and screws put in and still off work until next week. Been having a steady diet of Percocet for 2 months that has helped the pouch a great deal Wink
They gave me 1 vicodin in the ER and told me I couldn't drive - I told them I took 2 vicodins this morning for buttburn and drove just fine. They gave me a shot of something stronger after that Big Grin

There is a pretty good diet discussion going on here:

http://j-pouch.org/eve/forums/...1071921/m/2407032895

I think this is very much overlooked, and drs don't always know what to say. Dietitians are useless and can't even talk about things specific to us.

Thank the Lord I'm not the only one with this issue. While it tends to be almost any soup, the ones mentioned by the original poster and the Cream of (insert whatever here) soups tend to be the worst. I only recently narrowed down why I can only eat Roast cooked in a crock pot made by a few people: they don't use soup in it. I informed the others and they switched to beef broth, problem fixed and it's still just as good and tender.

It's still a jigsaw puzzle figuring these things out 13 years after my takedown!

An interesting forum question....

My colon is not to be removed until April 4..however, same foods cause me problem..my diet is as limited as Indy dave's....my favorite food is natural beef of any kind...(no hotdogs!)....and, no hamburgers...veal, t-bone, stir fry beef, etc..it all tastes well and goes "out" well...
