Thank you to all of you for your understanding, support and advice. You gave me the kick I needed to help him understand I wasn't helping his recovery - I was hindering it. With lots of encouragement, he is starting to empty the bag himself. You're right - it has been a traumatic experience for both of us - both the UC and surgery - but we can get through this and look forward to takedown.
