Hi everyone - I'm 2 years post takedown and fully continent during the day (although I do go a LOT). Have to get up at least once a night too.

Problem is, I can't be trusted at night - the number of times I dream about needing to go and searching, searching for a toilet - then I FIND one - and the relief! Only THEN I wake up! Anyone else have this problem?

I can live with this - life is still a HUGE improvement to before, but boy, would I like to be able to go to bed without knickers etc. D

oc just said take more immodium (I take 3 a day, more makes me uncomfortable) but unless I don't eat anything at all after 5pm, there is no chance of an unbroken night.

Yep, I had those dreams for years and years. I don't have them anymore - or at least I don't remember them if they're still occurring. The good thing is that I think you'll always wake up before you use that pretend toilet.... Wink

I have a few times in 8 yr's. In my dream I'm looking for a toilet and feel heavy in the butt like there is a big load and so far I haven't found the toilet in the dream and maybe thats a good thing because when I wake up I don't even have to go. If I found the toilet in my dream I'd probably try poopen.I HATE THAT DREAM!!

I actually have dreams of going in my underpants sometimes, and then I suddenly wake up and although I have not gone in my pants, I have the massive and strong urge to go. Of course now with the J Pouch, as opposed to when I had UC, I have the continence to be able to make it safely to the toilet. I have always interpreted these dreams as my body's warning mechanism to my brain so that I can avoid nighttime accidents. But, I don't have these dreams too much. Usually only when I eat a lot and have a massive output coming through.

I think what Gillian was asking is do any of us actually have an accident in bed when we dream about needing the loo. Well that was my interpretation of her post.

I have the dream a lot but with Wee Willie (my perminent end ileostomy) I have always woken up before anything bad happens. Not sure how my subconcious knows that I need to empty my bag when I can't feel it filling up though. Weird!

However, I do remember having that dream with my j-pouch and waking up to a small amount of leakage. Usually it was a sign that I had pouchitis.

Funnily enough I never had that problem in all the 20 years of UC. The pain would wake me up before the dream got too far. Now whether I could actually make it to the toilet in time once I'd awoken was another matter....

Hope you get some relief from your night time accidents soon.

Take care. Smiler
