Well I just returned home from my HIDA scan. I have been dealing with
terrible pain under my right rib and it radiates into my back and shoulder. I also feel like I have a huge softball stuck under my ribs when I leave back.. as if I am leaning against it. I have had 2 ultrasounds that were negative, bloodwork, and a upper endoscopy that showed a little gastritis but no ulcers. The pain is only brought on if I eat fatty foods or anything with spices. Everything has to be pretty bland and I drink a lot of water. This has been going on over 5 weeks now and my gastroenterologist decided to move on to HIDA scan which was done this morning. The first part went well then the tech went to talk to the doctor because it looked like my gallbladder had disappeared. Should I be concerned about this?? He said all of the films for the first half were then done and we would move on to the second part. Then we did the part with the CCK injection into my IV and that sent me into terrible pain and nausea. It made my stomach cramp all up and I hurt up into my shoulder and back The tech told me something is definitely not right and that "we may be on to something" because of the way I reacted. It felt like someone was stabbing me in the back and I nearly got sick to my stomach. Afterwards the tech gave me some juice and a blanket and let me relax until I was feeling good enough to leave. The doctor should be calling me in a few days..but I am just terrified, that like with every other test done, this will not give me an answer to my pain and the doctor will blow it off. I have lost so much weight from being unable to eat much and I feel awful. I just cannot function while living on painkillers. Today has been awful, I cannot eat or even really do anything except sleep due to being so painful...I am just terrified that this test will not give answers. Has anyone experienced this same problem and have any advice for me?? Thanks so much for any help! I guess I just need something to help cal my nerves... Heather |

I'm confused. Isn't this the exact same post you put up in the General Discussion forum a few days ago? I thought you got your questions answered. Or, do you have some new questions?

I am just trying to get as many opinions or ideas as possible. I also wonder what they will do if I am still in pain like this and yet the Hida scan is normal? With the gallbladder fading away during the test..I am guessing that isnt very normal but I dont know
Hopefully I will hear from the doctor tomorrow or Tuesday with my results..this is awful. |

Do you also have ulcerative colitis or crohn's disease? It doesn't indicate that you do on your profile. I'm just wondering because most of the people on this site have or had either UC or CD. While some of the members here have had gall bladder problems, we're not as familiar with the disease as we are with UC, CD, and FAP. That's why you're not getting a whole lot of answers - because this site isn't specifically for gall bladder disease. I wonder if there's also a site out there that deals more extensively with gall bladder disease.
You should also post your questions or concerns only once since there is limited data space. Our moderator has to work overtime trying to free up space just for those questions and concerns about j-pouches, k-pouches, s-pouches, w-pouches, t-pouches, UC, CD, and FAP. kathy *********************************************************** Lately it occurs to me, what a long strange trip it's been..... First, DO NOT WAIT FOR YOUR DOCTOR TO CONTACT YOU WITH YOUR TEST RESULTS. So often we worry about being a pest or worry that we will be dismissed when we call. However, when you do not call your doctor to tell him that things are not only not better, but actually getting worse, you are not doing your job as a patient. Doctors assume you are doing just peachy if you don't inform them otherwise. I know that you told him you were in pain before and that was the reason the tests were ordered. But, he needs to know that things are worse.
Call your doctor first thing in the morning. If your test results are not in yet, perhaps he can call the radiologist and get them expedited. They have short cuts when there is a medical need for a quick answer. And, as I said in my other post, go to the ER if the pain is severe and do not go home until you are evaluated by a surgeon and have blood tests run. Make sure to tell them you had a HIDA scan and what happened during the test. And, as Kathy said, posting in more than one forum does not get you more answers. If you have a different question that's fine, or if there is something new going on, just respond to your own post or start a new thread. General Discussion and Need Advice Now forums will get the best results if you want some quick advice. Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |
