As some of you have read I am 2 weeks post take-down and I went to the gym tonight and it felt GREAT!!! I am looking forward to getting myself back in shape. Prednisone added 30 pounds. Fortunately I lost 10 pounds before surgeries and surgery itself got rid of 10 pounds. Just another 10 pounds to go. One question though....I just started doing cardio, but I want to advance to strength training. Have any of you had problems with lifting?? I realize I need to start slow, but I do not want to tear anything related to the surgeries.

I just wanted to say congrats! Sounds like you are doing amazing.
I think you just need to be careful lifting over 10 lbs for awhile. I would imagine there are plenty of people that have first hand experience. Hope you continue to do heal well! Fantastic Amanda!
I am so glad for you. Feels good to get those rotten Prednisone pounds off, huh? Go easy on the lifting and stretching. I am still very sore on the inside, from too much housework and playing with my son and the dogs last week. Foolish me. It sure is hard to take it easy, when feeling so well. Monique |

My surgeon is making me wait 3 months to do cardio...and then an additional 2 months to do any form of lifting or sit-ups...take it easy and ease back into it!
I only have a week from Monday until I can start doing cardio again...I am pumped! Diagonosed UC: 9/05 Emergency colectomy: 7/28/06 J-Pouch Creation: 11/14/06 Take-down: 2/13/07 |

Amanda: I'm glad to hear you are doing so well. My surgeon (Dr. Cohen) had me wait four weeks after my TD wound closed before lifting.
Take it slow. Kevin |

Good Job Im 4 month out from my take down and I am going to try the Pat TIllman fun run 4.2 miles this Saturday. I cant tell you how much weight prednisone has put on me but I cant wait to get it off.

I'm dying to get back to the gym. Prior to having my colon out I was a competitive weightlifter. Now I'm feeling good enough 7 weeks after takedown to start training but my knees are killing! I think the years of prednisone on and off has done it's damage in the form of avascular necrosis(the 700+ lbs. squats might not have helped either). I'm 34 but feel like I have the knees of a 70 year old.
