I was doing really well until two months ago. My bathroom trips were between 6-10, but I could hold it in if i had too, than everything started to change. First there was leakage, than an occasional nighttime accident, I spoke to the sugeon and he told me to take cipro until i started feeling better. Two weeks ago i stopped the cipro, it wasn't doing anything, and my frequency was a bit better.. A few days later I had horrible chest and back pain. Pepcid helped some but not enough. After a few days of utter agony, i settled into a pattern. High frequency, leakage, uncontrolable feelings of urgency, and pain whenever I eat or breath deeply. I had a sonagram, today I finally forced them to tell me my results, when I brought my dad in for a routine colonoscopy. My gallbladder's fine. The doctor, who I usually like, shrugged me off, giving me some samples of anti spasmotics to take. I still feel a stabbing pain round my ribs on left side whenever I take a deep breath. My scar bothers me more and more. I pissed. I started today thinking I'd get answers, instead I feel like noone believes me. When i saw the GI doc on monday he promised we'd get to the bootom of this. He sceduled the ultrasound and recommended a possible endoscopy, but today he made me feel like my pain wasn't as bad as i think. I don't know what to do. I Want answers, and i shouldn't have to wait for him to believe me. Doctors used to underestimate my UC too, and than I almost died because they couldn't believe that there was anything seriously wrong with me. I Don't want to be scared anymore.
Has anyone had similar problems/ experiences? Can everything just be related to gerd? I never had gerd before the &^@%##@ pouch! This message has been edited. Last edited by: Ressurect_again, |

What's gerd?
Sorry you're frustrated. I would be mad too. You would think doctors would know better, but they probably get numb to patients complaints. Not an excuse at all though. We know our bodies best. In fact, my aunt just had a colonoscopy and was given pills for prep (never heard of pills). They must have cleaned her out good. She noticed after the scope that, though she was dieting and trying to lose weight, she had gained 5 lbs. She went to the doc because it seemed so weird and he wanted to shrug her off. Fortunately he did a blood test in spite of his skepticism and found out she was in renal failure (due to the colonoscopy prep). Anyway - these guys need to listen sometimes. I will compliment our family doctor. It seems after all my problems last year - he takes all of our symptoms very seriously now. "...it came to pass..." - I Thess. 3:4b (NASB) |

I hope this gets resolved real soon!
Not sure what to say, but have you tried going back on Cipro? Maybe a 2 weeks supply will do the trick. I know when I got pouchitis, in addition to increased urgency, frequency, I get a pain in my pouch area that is close to scar. The only other suggestion is to either a) find a new GI - it seems like you like(d) him, so not sure if that is the best idea. b) Get a second opion with a new GI - there is nothing wrong with letting the new doc know that you are looking for a new perspective for this specific problem, not a new long term GI. I think that should be OK. c) If you are not already, maybe you need to be more aggresive in your office visits and make a point to let them know how much pain you are in, etc. I know that many times after I leave the doctor's office, I forget to tell them some important things. I find that writing up a check list before the visit is helpful Good Luck! Keith |
