Pepto Bismol? Are you kidding me?

Whatever is in it(what is in it?) - it works for me!
Stops the pooper up and let the burning rash heal Big Grin. Something as cheap and easy as this and it takes 2 years for me to use it. I started with 1 in the a.m. and 1 in the p.m. by day 2 and 4 pills later I was so stopped up it hurt like He#@$%ll Mad from the cramping and I gained 3 pounds Eeker! After getting things cleaned out for a couple of days I started back with one chewable and waited 36 hours for things to start getting runny again before taking another one. I even slept 5 hours straight 2 nights last week. As long as I don't over do it - this maybe a good thing.

The only problem is figuring out how often to take it.
I also go for a scope next week...
Nice to rave for a change!
David

Pepto Bismol is bismuth subsalicylate. It is a heavy metal combined with an anti-inflammatory. It is also available as a cheap, store brand generic, so don't think you have to pay top dollar for it. It is sort of a wonder drug for travelers because of its mild antibiotic properties.

Only two things to be aware of when you use it chronically (which I don't see as a problem for you, since you cannot tolerate large doses). But for those who take larger amounts on a regular basis, there have been a few reports of encephalopathy (brain damage/irritation), mostly in the very old and very young, because tiny amounts of bismuth can be absorbed and retained in the body over time. Also, too much salicylate is like too much aspirin, and you can get ringing in the ears and GI bleeding.

Make sure not to take it for a week to ten days before your scope, for two reasons. One is the bleeding potential and the other is because it causes black stools.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Thanks for the tips - I get the generic and it is quite cheap. I will discuss long term use with my doc at my scope next week.
Thanks again
David

I take 1 with breakfast and 1 before bed and that (knocking on wood here), has worked wonders for me.
