This is a rave!

I have just completed a 12 hour mountain bike race, where I had to ride around a 5.75 mile rough off road course for 12 hours completing as many laps as possible. I completed 18 laps in 11 hours 16 mins, that is over 100 miles. I came 10 in my class of 31 and 14th out of 104 people who competed solo. The race was also open to pairs and teams of 4 who raced relay style.

I just rode at a pace I knew I could maintain and survive the 12 hours and was so stunned when I heard the race commentator at 9 hours say I was in 9th that I cried tears of joy. Even after being cured for over 10 years I still get emotional doing things that I never thought I would do again.

I drank a lot of electolyte drink (Dyoralyte) and ate cold Ready Brek, cold pasta, mueseli bars, Jafa cakes, bananas and marmalade sandwichs.

I had to dissapear into the bushes twice for toilet stops and finished the race absolutly busting to go again.

The only real after effects are aching knees and wrists as the course was so rough. After the race I took 2 Imodium before my evening meal of beer, pasta and steak and then woke up in the middle of the night with awful tummy ache.... a blockage. Fortunately it eased when I walked around and did some deep breathing, but it returned for a short while after drinking some more Dioralyte in the morning. I am also getting the odd twinge 24 hours later.

Post Race.

Way to go John! Nice to see others have done some extreme things with a pouch too.

I completed a week long adventure race a while back in New Zealand, posted under the topic "has anybody done any extreme events?".
