Today is the first anniversary of my takedown. What a journey it's been! I am (almost) embarrassed to say that three-and-a-half years ago I sat down at this same keyboard to compose messages to family members in the event of my death. My UC diagnosis was painfully slow, I had lost over 30lbs in 6 weeks...and I had conjured up visions of (untreatable) colon cancer. I resolved to put on a brave face and never cry in front of my family. I was ready to accept the worst outcome!
You can imagine how relieved I was to get the UC dianosis! It progressed with a vengence, and in Feb 06 I had the first of a "two step"
j-pouch procedure.
Today, I am thankful for the "quality of life" I enjoy. Life with a pouch is not perfect, but it's pretty darned good!

Congrats! You should celebrate today by having a party or going out with the people that are closest to you and saw you through it all. Enjoy the day and enjoy your health! Smiler

Glad to hear such a good report. I was diagnosed with UC 3.5 years ago after the birth of my 2nd child and I too thought that I would never make it this far. It is a long and painful wait for the diagnosis but fortunately we have the knowledge and technology that we do today and the skilled doctors to help us.

Go out, have a huge dinner and celebrate your life!!!
