| Peptones is often tried as a treatment for chronic pouch issues. You do need to watch that you don't develop too high a concentration of bismuth - I believe it causes liver problems. I believe I last saw no more than 8 peptones tabs a day and to get liver labs done if you continue this therapy long term. Jan may be able to confirm if I have the facts right. |

| Thanks for all the support everyone! The one downside is a little more straining. I stopped my three month long gluten-free diet because I didn't really notice much effectiveness. Maybe the increase in pasta and grains is giving me the solidity, along with the nuts I'm eating for iron. Jill, I will continue to be monitored by my nurse practitioner who, I'm sure, will keep tabs on the pepto bismol so thanks for the info. I just want so badly to be off antibiotics, at least for awhile. I've been on them since last June. |

| quote: Has anyone else noticed more solid poop while taking pepto? I had to stare into the toilet for a good solid minute because I couldn't believe what I was seeing, it was that exciting.
I am so glad that I am not the only one who gets excited about a solid poop. Way to go, Lambiepie!
What the poop?!

| That is awesome! I have never had that happen with pepto. But my diagnosis changed from UC to crohn's this summer and I was started on remicade. For the past 6 months I have had solid poop. It's marvelous! http://agirlwithguts.tumblr.com/UC 1996 Dx changed to crohn's 2011 J pouch step 1: 7/18/08 step 2: 9/10/08 adhesions removed 9/10/08 Currently on remicade for crohn's disease. |

| Pepto Bismol acts like a mild antibiotic. I think if you can stay off antibiotics with it, that is great. The dose you are taking should be fine. Overdose is mostly an issue of brain function (encephalopathy) and really is quite rare and seen mostly in the elderly or very young. It is due to heavy metal poisoning from bismuth absorbtion. But, in the Pepto Bismol formulation, the bismuth is poorly absorbed. Jan
Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

| Lambipie, Pepto works very well for me also. I saw someone else memtion it on here and thought I would give it a try. Much to my surprise it worked very well and it is inexpensive. Who knew @Jan Dollar, thanks for letting us know that the pepto is a mild antibiotic. Now I know why it works so well. KangaRoe |
