Hello, y'all!

I've been reading the forum for a few weeks now as I contemplated having surgery. Well, as of
Wednesday, December 7, I have a surgery date!

I was diagnosed with UC at age 12. Almost 20 years later, I am saying "Adios!" to my colon. Thanks for all the posts, everyone. They have really helped me reach some kind of state of nirvana about the whole ordeal. Relatively speaking.

If anyone in the DC/MD/Northern VA area needs to talk about GI doc, surgeons, etc., I am happy to convo. Please PM me.

What the poop?!

My colon is going to be history soon also. I live in Norfolk so not too far from you. I ordered a t-shirt from cafepress.com to wear back to work after the surgery that says "no colon and still rollin" figured they may appreciate it!! Take care and so long UC and low grade dyslasia (for me).

Hey! I am new to the j-pouch group but not new to the j-pouch (I've had mine since 2001). Good luck to both of you. I live in Bethesda so I am also near by. Let me know if you have any questions. I think I've been lucky with my pouch but I still had a handful of complications.

NDchick1, welcome aboard; it's a pleasure to meet you. When's your surgery and who is your surgeon? Mine was done by Dr. Lee Smith who was then at George Washington University Hospital. He later moved to Washington Hospital Center. It's been so long now (22+ yrs) that I think he's retired. :-O Lol

Prayers & Best Wishes to you and Holly M on your impending surgeries; I'll be thinking and praying for you both. As LC said, please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. Steve

My surgeries were performed by Dr. Paul Savoca. The first surgery was at Inova Fairfax, which I swore off after a HORRIBLE experience. My second, takedown, surgery was done at Reston Hospital Center where I received much better care.

I would recommend Dr. Savoca, and his partner Dr. Colvin who was the second set of hands for my operation, to anyone considering this procedure. I have not had good experiences with their partner Dr. Stern though. I just don't care for his bedside manner, I guess.

Thanks for all the support. Stay happy and healthy, everyone!
