Hi every one I'm new to this site and was just looking for support, helpful hints, etc. My name is Brian and I was diagnosed with stage 1 colorectal cancer in April of 2011 and MAP in June of 2011. I had a total colectomy with a one stage j-pouch procedure on July 26, 2011. I haven't experienced any complications (except butt burn)but was just wondering if there's anybody out there with MAP besides the two ppl me and my wife has already contacted. Any tips on living with a j-pouch wld b appreciated or if there's something maybe I cld help somebody with pls don't hesitate to contact me. Staying positive and having the support of friends and family is very important. It can and will get u thrgh anything!

If you haven't already been suggested to do so, look for Frank! ID: Frank in NC

There are other MAP'ers out there but not all of them are online - or use forums. Welcome to the group!

I have just found out that my Stage 3A rectal cancer was caused by MAP. I am weighing different surgical alternatives--colostomy/j-pouch/k-pouch--as it is clear that I must remove both the rectum and the entire colon. I have gone through four weeks of pre-operative chemotherapy (xeloda) and daily radiation treatments and I have had zero troubling side effects. I am a very active person and have a job that I love. How many weeks off from work after surgery would I expect to have normally, assuming no complications from the colectomy?

I had the BCIR surgery done, since you are in Cali you can look into that unless you had surgery already seeing this post was in December.
