Hello. I've posted here a lil bit before, but thought it was about time that I actually introduced myself.

I lost my colon 1/07 in an emergency surgery due to UC (had it for 15 years). I had the 3 steps done since there wasn't time before the first surgery to decide on having a jpouch. So, 5 surgeries (two hip ones thrown in there along the way) and 371 days later I finally had my TD on 2/1/08. I honestly had to stop coming to this board because I was getting way too freaked out by the problems some people experienced with their j-pouch (not meaning to offend anyone). I had complications with both steps 1 & 2 and just couldn't handle more.

Well, I'm 2 weeks post TD now and I feel great! My surgeon told me that I'm "ahead of the curve" in regards to my recovery (and # of daily bm's). I haven't been ahead of any curve in over 14 months! My stamina is not quite up there yet, but it's getting there. I'm back to eating whatever I want and trying to see how foods affect my pouch. I was so scared of having to change my diet with the pouch (I love food!) and am happy that so far, I can eat whatever I want. Spicy food does give me some BB, but I love Mexican food, so wonder if I can burn off the nerve endings on my tush with the food so I can continue to enjoy spicy stuff whenever I want (sort of a joke).

Things are good now, but I'm sure I'll have some questions along the way. I'm still in the "pouch discovery" phase. Smiler

It's nice to hear positive stories - there are so many stories and issues (believe me I've had my share too!), but it's just nice to hear some 'ahead of the curve' stuff. I too am on my 2nd week post TD and other than a sore bottom and perhaps some cuffitis, I feel fantastic. Slowed my food down but making it work.

Welcome Stephanie,

It's good to hear success stories... especially someone that is ahead of the curve, that's awesome. I'm looking to have my TD pretty soon so I'm happy to hear about things going better than anticipated. Congrats on a successful TD.
