Hi, my name is Darin and live in Cypress Tx, just NW of Houston.
First, thanks to all the suggestions and recommendations provided by all. I know they will not only speed up my recovery but improve my life.
I was dx with UC in 81. Lived through various stages of flares but generally lived a normal life. In '99, I was dx with PSC, a rare liver disease that is shown to be linked with UC and Chrons. I had a liver tx in '01. Gastro and tx surgeons have been hounding me for a colectomy since day one due to increased risk of colon cancer. Finally bit the bullit and on 12/4 had the full colectomy with ileostomy. Had the take down this past Tues, 3/9, and decided to increase my research on what to expect and how to handle. At present, I'm going through the normal post op problems - frequent loose stools, cramping, butt burn, etc.
After reading several posts across the forum, I know better days are ahead of me and if I run into complications, I know where to turn.

Hi! Just wanted to show some support. I had my takedown in 2006. Had all those same issues, but it really does get better. If nobody mentioned it to you, you should research foods that are binding including things like oats, rice, and bananas. There are also foods that can make it worse, but that can be different for each person. Once you're used to the jpouch it's definitely better than living with an ileostomy. Good luck!

Thanks Lisa.
Sorry for the late "Thanks". Lost the link and didn't have a chance to look for it. Things are slightly better. Worse in the early/late evenings than in the morning. Maybe the body's "warmed up" and digesting quicker.

Again, thanks for the welcome.

Darin

Jasper,

You are very early in your recovery period, and it is pretty common to feel the way you do. Are you on any medications for the pain and diarrhea? If not, you need to communicate with your surgeon how miserable you are. The docs assume everything is fine unless you tell them otherwise. If he knows, tell him again and insist on something to releive your symptoms.

Sometimes you have to really be assertive. Some surgeons can tend to dismiss complaints, assuming you are exaggerating or that they will quickly resolve if you do nothing.

If you post in the general discussion area, you may get more responses.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Just saw your post this afternoon but I wasn't able to get on line so I had to wait until I got home to respond.

Most of us don't make it this far down the list that often so we don't read these posts.

As Jan said you need to post in the General Discussion or Need Help Areas in order to reach the wider audience and get responses.
