Hello everyone.

I have had UC for about 10 years and it has been relatively well manged. No urges. No visits to the hospital....etc.

The docs just found a tumor in my cecum. Now I am going to have the colon removed in a couple weeks.

The docs have decided to do a 3 step procedure to the pouch to accommodate for the possibility of chemo. They dont want the bag to be so close to my stomach as with chemo the bag output would be through the roof. So they are going to do and end-illeostomy, then loop and form the pouch, then the takedown.

I am a police officer and am hoping that I can still manage to to my work between the 1st surgery and the takedown....and obviously beyond.

I just want to say hi and look forward to hearing from others in my situation.

Thanks!

You should have absolutely no problems working. We have members who are police officers and firefighters here - with ileostomies. You can also purchase protective covers for your appliance.

So sorry that you have to go through this.

I went through the three step surgery as well. It can sometimes feel like a step backwards to have a second and third surgery after you recover from the first. But it will be all worth it in the end. Also it will be great to not have the worry of colon cancer hanging over your head. Good luck, and this site is great for questions and support. Keep us posted on your progress. Our thoughts are with you.

Good luck with your surgery. Come back to the site afterwards...it's a wealth of information!
