This is my first post here. I've been lurking, but decided to finally post.
My daughter had a kidney transplant in 6/04. A complication of that was getting UC in 11/07. We tried lots of things - enemas, prednisone, remicade... the only thing that worked was a high does of prednisone, which has caused other issues (growth problems, cateract...) We decided on a total colectomy. She has a temporary ileostomy and is scheduled for her Take Down on October 30th.
Can anyone tell me what to expect after the Take Down?

Julie - you should post this in the general discussion forum so more people will read it. Sometimes people don't make it all the way down here. You'll get lots of replies if you post it there.

There are quite a few people who have children who have gone through this. Connie is one. You could PM her and ask her questions. I'm sure she'd be glad to help you out.

My daughter is now 11, going on 12. She had her Take-Down just before turning 6. She is doing quite well. She is reflecting back on the experience. My wife and I have joined the forum to allow Nikki to read others experiences and to offer some perspective from that of a child who has gone through all of this.
