I am going on my first hiking/tent camping overnight in the woods. Where we are staying there will be no bathroom facilities. I am nervous about emptying the pouch. I will be with my husband, but the rest of the campers will be strangers. Any tips or ideas that might help? Take an extra cath. Also, take plenty of water and a bulb syringe. Good for flushing out the pouch and catheter cleaning. Happy camping!

Hi Rosie...congratulations on having the courage to do it! How wonderful. I have a sort of kit for that situation...I take a large water bottle with me (1.5litres) and cut the top off of it about 4 inches down and then place it in the bottle upside down...I keep it filled with water or near a water source...When I need to empty my pouch I isolate myself, use the water bottle to irrigate with a bulb syrine and use the top part as a funnel...I place the tube through the hole opening so that I can empty with out splashing or place it over a hole in the ground...makes aim easier! and keeps it descrete...I then rince with the water left in the bottle and put the kit back together! Take spare ziploc bags with you for the times when you can't rince out the tube and a roll of T.P. and lots of lube...if they have a port-a-potty then there is not problem...if not I find that it is easier to intubate when kneeling on the ground rather than squatting. Have fun Sharon It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....
