do you know what a yeast rash around a stoma looks
like?

I have a red rash around the stoma, a little raised,
gets white and blistery closer to the base of the
stoma. I've never had a rash before believe it or not.

Hi Leslie,

What you are describing does indeed sound like a yeast infection. Ask your doctor for an anti-yeast medication. Diflucan is taken orally and should get it under control but there is also a powder you can get with an anti-fungal med in it. If you have any Canestan cream at home then rubbing some of that in will help with the itching.

I have found that since I take probiotics every day that I no longer get issues with yeast infections, so it might be worth your while trying that once you have your infection under control.

Good luck. Smiler

Leslie,

Is your stoma a Kock pouch stoma? If so, once you get the rash cleared up, you can use a skin barrier around the stoma. There are a couple of different kinds. Some come in a bottle. Clear liquid. And there are skin wipes that come in a little sealed packet.

Or an ostomy with an external appliance?

Thanks

Eating live culture yogurt may help too besides the medication.

Always remember....After the storm there's a beautiful rainbow.

I told the truth, I stood my ground...one against an International Corporation with money and power. I am proud I tried to right a wrong (an illegal wrong) done to me with such impossible odds. I appreciate the courageous attorney who stood beside me, believed in me and saw it through to the end.

A miracle*, an angel*, my granddaughter *Jada Lynn*. You have taught me so much in so little time. A precious gift from God.

Ok, I know that this will sound ucky but....in case of emergency itching and impossiblilty to get to a local pharmacy or doctor ( vacation in a rather foreigen land?) try laying back and slathering yogourt (the plain white kind, no fruit please!!!) around your stoma; you can also use it as a cataplasm ( just dab some on a pad and stick it to the stoma). It really works, especially the acidopholous or bifidus types....avoid the flavoured or colored ones or you may just get a shock if you forget you put them there Big Grin....Old grandma remedies work (my grandma was a pharmacist!! Big Grin)

Hi Holly
I don't know how to do a private message so I have to post it. I was wondering if you could give me an item number for the catheter cleaner and bulb syringe you got from Edgepark. I tried to order it and they did not know what I was talking about. My puppy ate the ball of the syringe. He thought it was a ball. You are just so knowledgeable about these things. The company my insurance has me ordering from doesn't have these things.
How is Chris doing?
Karmen
Thanks in advance.

also...tea tree oil is a godsend..very natural and kills yeast, bacteria, etc. I put a bit on a cotton ball and dilute with a little water and wipe around stoma. Then follow up with diaper guard (which I use daily) and it's always healed nicely. If I forget the diaper guard daily then I start getting red again..but just repeat and it's gone.
