While cleaning out the attic, we found the booklet I was given at the Mayo Clinic in 1979 when I had the first Kock due to non responsive UC...The copyright was 1977 and this was the second edition
I thought I'd share some passages; "Not every patient had the choice you did....Perhaps, in the future, many other patients will be able to have the internal pouch like yours. But for the present you are one of a small minority" "Often nothing is more encouraging to patients than sharing their concerns with someone who has been down the same road and has learned to adapt..." ".....you are still having trouble passing the catheter into the pouch, the chances are that you're tense. Your ileal pouch knows it and has tightened up" This booklet has great drawings of how the pouch and valve are constructed. Anyone knows when Cleveland Clinic started doing Kocks? Kock 1979; end ileo 2003; Kock 2006 |

Yes I do remember the book given to me. That is where I got the Continent Ileostomy foods list from, that I posted down below.
I just e-mailed Dr. Tremaine today, and asked him to Please reconsider doing the Kock Pouch again at the Mayo Clinic. So I am waiting for his response, he is the doctor I saw in 2001 for a check up. I was getting very ill from x workplace discrimination, harassment and retaliation. I can't go into it anymore than that. I am in litigation now infact. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Always remember....After the storm there's a beautiful rainbow. I told the truth, I stood my ground...one against an International Corporation with money and power. I am proud I tried to right a wrong (an illegal wrong) done to me with such impossible odds. I appreciate the courageous attorney who stood beside me, believed in me and saw it through to the end. A miracle*, an angel*, my granddaughter *Jada Lynn*. You have taught me so much in so little time. A precious gift from God. |
