Hello friends,
It's not often I have to ask for help here but I am having excess moisture from my stoma. Nothing seems to be enough to absorb it.
I suspect pouchitis but don't have any other symptoms.
Thanks!

Bill, it's not often we see you!
I don't want to be confused, you are having moisture from your stoma?, not mucous coming from within?

Recently, I noticed a change in mucous flow to heaaavier and I remembered increasing one of my meds. Any changes for you?

However, I've noticed for awhile irritated in through the valve when I intubate, and have thought of pouchitis, yet have no other symptoms.

I have been using Lansinoh nursing pads and they have worked very well absorbing moisture.
I also apply Calmoseptine around my stoma to protect the skin in case I can't change my pad for hours (6 hrs) on a heavy day.

Have I provided any help?

Hi Bill....once a week or more I'll have days of wetness with no other symptoms. I think it's when I'm stressed. I just looked yesterday and my pants were wet! I have alot going on...so think it's just active with my mind. Never could figure it out....

Hi Bill..well, as long as it is moisture and not leakage it is not devestating....but can be very annoying...I am very 'moist' and always have been but I find that it increases with the number of daily intubations and if/when I am extra irritated due to certain foods it gets worse..I get up every night to change pads...occasionally 2-3 xs a night...and soak through anyway...
I use a cut up minipad on the unddies + a folded kleenex taped down...then I only change the flushable kleenex...and keep the minipad on...when I am too runny I just up the level of minipad absorbancy...and/or just use 2 ...a birrger one on the unddies and a smaller one taped on....
One note..Dr. C in Toronto told me that I had to lubricate with every intubation even if I am very leaky..he explained that intubating without lube makes me even more drippy through irritation and puts the valve in danger...
Hope this helps
Sharon

It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....

Thanks all. I'm going to give the nursing pads a try.
I'm thankful it's moisture and not leakage, but this is something new after 10 years.
Best,
Bill

For me I thought it was normal to change my underwear 4 times a day do to moisture?? I have at leat 22 pairs of undies do to this problem. AM patch doesn't last even with a cotton ball. I use the nursing pad and paper tape. If I cut it in half that is when too much moisture will cause a change in clothing

Jeannie...you shouldn't have to change your unddies so often...I found a reasonably good system that helps me when I am over moist...like now...(I change 10-15xs a day/night)111;
I bought these really neat adult minipads for unrinary leakage, I cut them in half or 1/3s to fit the size of the unddies and vlue it down...then I use a really absorbant mini pad cut in half against the skin with tape. I only change the mini pad against the skin...the other one stays against the unddies to protect the clothes...makes dressing easier and less messy. I keep spares in my purse of each and only change the damp one.
It is the driest method that I have found.
