Although she no longer appears (although I do believe that she reads us) on this site and suffers greatly in total silence, one of our fellow K pouchers, Dom, is going in for surgery #5 this week...She has lived with full blown incontinence, total prolapse and a litany of miseries realted to her poor k pouch...They have finally agreed to try once again and My prayers are with you...let this one finally, be a success and may you find full health and peace.
Please, help me to send loving thoughts and prayer to her...she truely deserves it.
Sharon

I have been in occasional contact with Dom for quite some time and she is way overdue for something going right for her. So, Dom, this is me sending all my best wishes your way.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Thanks Josh,
I know the man (Dr) from the link...he is the one who told me that k pouches would never work, he did not believe in them and that he would happily remove mine and replace it with a perfectly functional ostomy...he refused to help me when my valve was hanging 5 inches out of my body...said that sooner of later I would find myself in ER and then he would put me under and give me an ostomy anyway! When I refused to accept the ostomy he told me to go back to my Canadian Dr.
Non assistance of a person in danger, pracically criminal negligence...I flew home with my valve in my hand...(kind of like Dom now)
Ps...it was his boss, the previous chief of surgery there, who put me in this position in the first place and then refused to fix me...left me hemmoraging with a sunk, twisted stoma before I found this site, re-discovered Dr C and called. Dr C understood immeditately, had me come strait over and fixed it.
The French, like certain other European countries do not believe in the k pouch, no longer create them or just remove them as soon as there is a problem...quality of life does not count here...just cost effectiveness.
Sorry for the rant...saw his picture and it threw me off.
Sharon

Sharon...

My apologies...when I was doing some research, i noticed the international association, etc, and thought perhaps he was a great k-pouch doc...as you mentioned, I suppose he, as many other surgeons, is not to versed in k-pouch surgery, or does not think highly of the k pouch itself. I have experienced the same attitude you received from him from several surgeons who were not intuned to patients quality of life or who were not skilled or experienced with the surgery, and hence denigrate it. It seems though that several other surgeons on that site are experts with continent ileos, guess not the French ones though.

Although I don't know all of the French surgeons those that I have come into contact with here have been mostly against it...especially the older ones...I have been fortunate to meet one man who is a humanist above all else...kind and sensitive and who understands the difference between cut and stitch and surgery...he has opted out of the public health system (very costly!)and only operates privately but is the #1 expert here in laporoscopic surgery and believes in the k pouch, j pouch and any alternative to and outside bag...too bad he is too old to train in the k pouch but he has been willing to learn enough to help me in case of emergency and has 4xs...There are a lot of good people around but it is usually difficult to find them...
Thanks for trying Josh, I do appreciate the effort...
