Mucus output higher than usual ?

Let's see if I remember how to post now that I can log in again! I've had my K pouch for close to a year and a half now. Everything has been going fine except the last few days the amount of mucus/moisture drainage I've had from my stoma has been ridiculously high. I keep it covered with a small pad and that's usually enough, but now it's soaking through the pads. That's not "normal" for me. I've had high output before but it's just been an occasional thing; this has been constant for about 3 days now. It looks normal (clear, thin) so I'm not sure what could be going on. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Hi Elizabeth - my mucous output has always changed daily - from a little to alot.

I have noticed that if I am more stressed the output is much higher. And, if I have to work harder interbating pulling out peices of unchewed food, my mucous output is higher after. Maybe from the stoma getting irritated.

Thanks for the reply. Smiler I was thinking possibly I've just irritated the stoma or something like that. My grandmother is firmly convinced that it's a slipped valve or something bad like that. I think that's not very likely especially since nothing else seems to be wrong, but I'll probably e-mail Dr. Launer and ask him what he thinks might cause this. My grandmother keeps insisting that I need to do that, and she won't stop worrying until I do!

I get increased mucus output immediately prior to an episode of pouchitis. Do you have any increased activity from your pouch?

Diet may play a role in your out put. I notice a slight increase if I eat spicey food.

I have always had a problem with excess mucus.
I solved the problem by adding two P-2 pads to each AMpatch. I expose the hole in the patch and insert one pad. I then remove the protective paper from the rest of the pad and fold a second P-2 pad over the hole.
This works for me
{AMPatch sells the P-2 pad.}

For me it depends on the number of times I intubate in a day and the duration (how lond the intubation takes and if I need to keep taking out the tube)..;the stoma gets irritated andkicks out more mucus...yesterday I leaked through all day...last night too..but the day beofre I was fine???Physical activity does it sometimes to me too...I guess that the more the area is moved around the more it lubricates itself...

It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....
