Stoma plug (Vanessa?)

Vanessa,
Glad to hear your surgery went well. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

I wanted to start a new topic in case you didn't go back on my old thread. I am really interested in the stoma plug. Would you please ask your nurse what it is called and where I can contact the manufacturer in order to buy one. I would greatly appreciate any information you had on it as my stoma is shrinking even when I take the tube out for 2 hours....it is very painful. Thank you so much.

Rosie

Rosie,
I had the same problem after one of my surgeries...the valve had 'sunk' into the canal a bit and the skin didn't want to stay open...it kept trying to heal itself shut and it was excruciatingly painful..we tried 3 different solutions...1. the cauterized the edges, 2. they did a Z plastie on the skin around the edges to try and keep it open and three the used differnt cortison creams on it...I ended up making my own stoma plug that worked quite well and it was really easy to make.
PM me and I will explain it to you...it was safe and effective and I made 6 so that I always had 1 in each kit...My doc here really like them too.
What is going on with yours? Is the stenosis on the valve or on the skin at the surface? Is the valve shrinking or is the skin trying to heal in on itself?
Sharon

It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....

Sharon,
Can you please PM, I can't figure out how to PM someone, only how to reply to a PM. I am computer illiterate sometimes! I am really interested. Did the cauterizing work? I hate the idea that I have to go back to Cleveland from Boston just for that. My problem appears to be with only the skin. The skin is trying to heal itself. Figures, my body is too efficient when I don't want it to be and not efficient enough when I had UC.

I will reply if you PM me. Thanks.

I went under the "new" button at the top and selected PM. Then I went to where it says "Find New Buddies" and I typed your screen name. Then I clicked the box to check your name and then closed the window. Your name was under my contacts and I clicked "add" to invite you to the message. It took me a while to figure it out! LOL

Hi Rosie, since it is the holidays and most of the staff here are gone I can ask Monday. I know that a patient's husband made one for her and Dr Rehnke liked it so much he had them made for everyone in our take home package of accessories. I will take a photo maybe tomorrow and share it on here so you can see what it looks like or you can email me and I will send it right back vanessavy@gmail.com

I sincerely hope that those pictures are close-ups and that they are in fact smaller than they appear! If not...OUCH!
