Hi all,
Had surgery a week ago..all laporoscopy..for a double peristomal hernia that 'ran' like a stocking and and incarcerated pouch (was stuck in the hernia and not sent to prision!)
The pouch was ripped off of the wall when it twisted into the hernia (ouch!ouch!ouch Mad)so he put the pouch back up again too...all of this from a Dr. who had never even heard of a K pouch 18 months ago...he was great, so was the surgery, the team and the post op as compared to the usual (the 5 other times) but now here comes the problem...
Since surgery...I look and feel 9.5 months pregnant and bloat up double as soon as I put anything into my mouth...bread, soup, tea...etc...doesn't matter...even chicken broth...or water.
What is going on? I took metronyzol pre-op...a really good antibiotic but nothing other than pain meds since...
Is it pouchitis? I haven't had it in about 20 years so I really don't remember...ton of gas but no liquid stools and I am not really digesting well either...just went back on the probiotics Sunday night but it hasn't kicked in yet...
Other than that all of the bloodwork is great, and I feel fine other than this and the pain... Big Grin
Sharon

It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....

HI Sharon
Glad you are back home. Laparoscopy surgery can cause a lot of misery from the bloating. A week seems like a long time though.
Beware of shutting your bowel down with too many oral pain meds and causing an ileus. On xray your small bowel would be swollen.
If I were you I would tape my catheter in with paper tape and put a glove (like the ones in the hospital) on the end so you can stay deflated. When you empty just cut the end of one of the fingers and tie it back up.
If you don't want to do this drink warm fluids until your bowel comes back to normal.
What did the surgeon say when you went back for the post op appt? Or have you?
I take it you did not have an NG tube after surgery. Sounds like you might need one. YIKES the dreaded NG tube. Forget I said that.
Hope this turns around soon. I know what it's like because yes - pouchitis is just like that. It was for me anyways.

God bless, Jeanne

Thanks Jeannie,
I was on strait drain for 5 days...just as bloated, the bloating goes rith up to my chest now whenever I eat and I feel like the pouch just does not empty fully...I will drink tons of green tea tonight and keep off of the solids...let's see if that works!
Not ready for NG TUBES ...or anything else like that...yes, I guess that the bowl is swollen still so I think that I will be nicer to it for a while...maybe stop the coffee too...
