Chris used a straw, NO NO, and drank a carbonated beverage, NO NO, this is what caused the latest problem, when he couldn't get the tube back in his stomach got distended so fast and when he arrived at the hospital and the nurse got past the almost prolapsed stoma it was all GAS!
especially in the early stages after surgery, at least 1 year, it is crucial to strictly adhere to the diet restrictions if you want your k pouch to last.chris is finding that out the hard way as with everything he has done all his life.we are getting a nurse today to educate him for 1 hour on the Do's and Dont's. If he doesn't listen he will undoubtedly have a perm ostomy and only can hope no short bowel with tpn for life. I still don't think he gets it. This message has been edited. that's awful!
yes, it is really important to adhere to the diet stuff. although, i must say, i drink from straws (VERY often.) i didn't at first, but i'm not a year out from surgery. I'm 10 months though. so close. I didn't do ANYthing for awhile (i.e., i didn't use straws, didn't chew gum, etc. I don't smoke anyway, so that wasn't a problem.) I STILL don't drink carbonated stuff. but thats no biggie for me, b/c I didn't really drink pop before surgery, and don't miss it. although i've heard that if you poor whatever the carbonated beverage is into a cup and let it sits for like 10 min. first, that it cuts down on the gas producing carbonation. i wouldn't really know though |
