Ostomycure AS is a medical technology company, developing an innovative new solution for evacuating of fluids from the intestines. The technology is called Transcutaneous Evacuation Implant Technology, TIES™. The TIES™ technology is aimed to be an alternative for patients with inflammatory conditions in colon, cancer in the urinary bladder and cancer in rectum.
Ostomycure has just entered the clinical trial phase. In the pre-clinical phase Ostomycure showed, as the first company ever, that it is possible to get a good in-growth between intestine and a titanium implant.

Ostomycure is based at Science Park in Oslo and is partnering with Karolinska University Hospital, Huddinge, Sweden, Rikshospitalet in Oslo, Norway, Norrlands University Hopsital in Umeå, Sweden, Ahus Hospital in Oslo, Norway and a number of other commercial partners.

The TIES™ Solution
TIES® which is a registered trademark by Ostomycure AS is short for Transcutaneous Implant Evacuation System and is a technology platform including an implant that goes through the skin used to evacuate something from the body.

In its first application TIES® is used for patients that have their colon or urinary bladder removed and thus need to get rid of the waste from the ileum in another fashion than "the normal way". By implanting a titanium port (TIES® Port) in the stommach and let the ileum grow into the Port, and put a lid (TIES® Lid) on top of the Port, the patient can live a life without the need to wear a stoma bag 24 hours a day.

Can't wait to see how trials went!!!! Exciting!

Update...they are seemingly making progress, patents, clinical trials, etc..sounds like a great idea....would seemingly be a device that takes the place of a surgically created valve and what with it the occasional need for re-operations for various reasons...would be great if the idea works or comes to fruition...here is link/s :

Interesting, this will be something to keep an eye on. Titanium will take care of rejection by the body, that's what knee and hip replacements are made of. Since there is a problem with some valves in the kock pouch, this may be the future way of making it. No valve to slip or leak, I hope this works, since it would help so many people. There may be a day when there are no longer the use of Ostomy bags, if this procedure works well. With insurance companies cutting back on so many things, this may be a cheaper and better alternative for bladder and colon surgeries. I've often wondered why they haven't come up with something new since they have new feeding tube surgeries now than in the past. Very interesting, thanks for posting this. I'm always interested in new procedures.

I have done a lot of research about OstomyCure. In Summer 2009 the TIES device was implanted into a human body for the first time.

There are clinical trials in Norway, but if you live outside of Norway it is very difficult to participate in these trials due to financial issues.

Perhaps there are some capable surgeons outside of Norway who want to try the TIES device in the near future.

There is already patent protection for the TIES device in many European countries.

I think that it is possible that the TIES device will be ready for the market launch within the next two years. The market launch of this innovative product will of course led to a renaissance of the kock pouch.

Best Regards
Martin

I went on the site ordered 4 catheters and they wanted to charge me 21.00 to ship it. I canceled the order. They were on sale for 9.99 which is half what I was paying at another site. Isn't this shipping charge out of line?

Yes, Shipping prices seem to have risen across the board...some places still offer free shipping, but may not have the supplies you want/need, etc. Just have to look for the best prices, deals, etc.

Hi Tiffy,
I just contacted the people at TIES yesterday to submit my candidature for the human trials of the TIES valve...the response was that they limit them to local residence due to the heavy follow-up and the need to have the patients close at hand but that they will be starting human trials in Europe next year and then they will be looking for candidates here then...I have sort of said that I am more than just interested!
They were very nice about it...they did not mention anything about N.A. trials yet...
Let's see if they come to France and if a doc here would be willing to take me on....
Here's hoping
Sharon

My valve sucks and keeps moving around, so I think this will be better to hold everything in place. Let's all pray this is approved soon and actually works!!! I think my surgeon here would be willing to do it because he does artificial sphincters and stuff.

Hello Tiffy-poo,

the CEO of OstomyCure said in an interview that the development of the TIES device could be finished within two years. So there is a good chance for a market launch of this innovative product in 2013.

Best Regards
