K-pouch and pregnancy

I was debating where to start this topic, under pregnancy or K-pouch corner, I guess I will start here.

I am interested in knowing if anyone has had a successful pregnancy with a K-pouch. I didn't find much info while looking around on here. I can recall before my surgery, Dr. Fazio mentioning that women have had babies after K-pouch but at that time that was the furthest thing from my mind. But now, almost three years later I am considering my options. I would love to hear from anyone who has gone through this. Thank you! Tracey

Hi Tracey - my surgeon had assured me full term pregnancy was absolutely doable - with the possibility of needing to keep the catheter taped in during the last few weeks if I had problem interbating (baby pushing against pouch/valve). I decided not to have children for other reasons but I hope others here respond as they did have successful pregnancies.

I found links with posts - maybe you can PM these members for more info if they don't reply.

Hi, I have 3 healthy children from 3 separate pregnancies occurring more than a decade after my K pouch was constructed. I did have some inconvenient complications to deal with during the pregnancies as a result of the growing baby interfering with the K-pouch position-wise which caused me to need to keep the tube permanently inserted from around mid-second trimester forward, but all was fine the moment each baby was born. Two of them were born vaginally and the last one by emergency C-section only because she was breach. I had spoken to a couple of other women with K-pouches (before my pregnancies) who both had no problems whatsoever. But I consider the inconveniences I dealt with quite minor in the overall scheme of things, and I and the babies remained perfectly healthy and fine through each pregnancy and after each birth. Feel free to private message me if you have any specific private questions......Good luck!!!!!!!!

I have had 2 pregnancies with my Kock.
One pregnancy was with twins!
Both deliveries were C-section.
I didn't have any problems with intubating.I had the usual heartburn and food cravings. My post c-section recovery was no problem.
You are welcome to ask questions by PMing me as well.
