Does anyone know if anything but Nystatin powder gets rid of it?

Hi Jeannie, I used to think it was yeast, but for me it was wetness rash. I used to use nystastin for years thinking it was yeast and then switched to a diaper cream (zinc based) and I don't have any skin irritation at all! I like Secura Extra Protective Cream (EPC) the best.

Jeannie
One summer I got the worst rash on the skin around my stoma...it drove me nuts and I was away on vacation. It was hot and humid (worse than where I live) and we were spending most of our time outside.
When I got home, I saw my ET, I had two choices; try Stomahesive powder, or Calmoseptine. The Calmospetine did the trick, I keep it in the house and take it with me when I go away. What I had was a heat rash and the discharge from my stoma made it worse.
I use to use it before i went to work, because my mucous discharge was so bad i thought it would cause a rash.

Thanks ladies I am much better today and did not have to obtain a prescription for the powder. It was a heat rash. Thanks for the excellent info.

Hi Jeannie,
I use halve of a really absorbant mini-pad over the stoma as well...and change often, it absorbs the stuff better and leaves less moisture on the stoma site to irritate me...here it is really hot and there in no A/C so hot means HOT.
I double up to using the prefolded kleenex over the mini pad or 2 minis..dry is the only way for me to avoid the itch/irritation..

It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....

sometimes my skin around the pouch really itches too. sometimes it looks a little red and stomahesive powder doesn't help. At night I take a benydryl and that helps but today after lunch I thought I was gonna die it itched so bad. Driving back to work and I just wanted to ram a coat-hanger under my stoma cover. what does heat rash look like?

I don't know if this will help but I use Garnier Shampoo for dry scalp and it has pyrithium zinc in it which is a natural fungicide. I use this as a shampoo and soap and it is a good way to prevent fungal infections on a daily basis.
