http://www.webmd.com/colorectal-cancer/guide/caring-continent-ileostomy
I don't know if I can take credit for this, but let me tell you what happened awhile ago. While sitting in a doctor's office reading WebMD,there was an article about the Brooke Ileostomy being the surgical solution to UC. There was no mention of Kock, BCIR, or Jpouch. So I wrote a letter to the editor, telling them that their article was incorrect. That there were other options for UC patients depending on the circumstances and listed jpouch, Kock and BCIR. Look what happened to come across (truly I was Googling for something). I hope this comes up correctly Kock 1979; end ileo 2003; Kock 2006 |

Great link.Article was from Nov 06.
I found this some time ago after Chris first got his kock pouch. I printed it for him. I don't know when you wrote the letter, however this is something Cleveland Clinic lacked when Chris got his kock-instructions to maintain and function with it were minimal at best. Dr Shore's office truly offered real education and hands on training and invaluable pointers he was never given in Ohio. The article was reviewed by Michael Smith at the Taussig Cancer Center in Cleveland, in Nov 06, so that was a few months after Chris had his initial surgery , however, he was there last year and this was never given to him. Maybe depts don't communicate there? Thanks for posting the link as I never gave it a second thought then and had really forgotten about it. |
