Hi everyone yesterday was my four month anniversary of having a K-pouch, and I am not sure if things are going well.
I have been having leakage issues pretty much a little bit after drinking something (any type of beverage), and as soon as start to eat a meal about six bites into I begin to leak (I cant remember the last time I ate a hot or even warm meal). I was told that my surgery was difficult because the radiation I had made my organs difficult to work with, so there may be a possible valve issue. But, I am hesitant to consider a revision since things are still pretty new. Has anyone else had a similar experience. |

The valve is not supposed to leak gas or stool. You need to see your surgeon, it sounds like a slipped valve. You may or most likely will have to have it repaired surgically.

I told the truth, I stood my ground...one against an International Corporation with money and power. I am proud I tried to right a wrong (an illegal wrong) done to me with such impossible odds. I appreciate the courageous attorney who stood beside me, believed in me and saw it through to the end. A miracle*, an angel*, my granddaughter *Jada Lynn*. You have taught me so much in so little time. A precious gift from God. |

You might try leaving the tube taped in place for 14 to 21 days. Sometimes a bit of scar tissue may build-up and attach the valve. It is worth a shot. Just make sure you keep the catheter open and unclogged. You can take the cap off every 2 or 3 hours and not allow a lot of gas build-up inside the pouch.

I was told by the Mayo Clinic doctor, that it took 21 days for scar to adhere. So if you are going to try the catheter being left in, it would have to be for 21 days. It would be worth a try, I was told this in 1979 by Dr. Beart a doctor I saw at the Mayo Clinic. I believe he is now in California. I hope it works for you. I tried this method when I had trouble inserting my catheter way back in the beginning and it worked. I didn't have any leakage though but it still may be worth a try. I hope it works for you. I've never dealt with Chemo so I really don't know anything about that aspect of this issue.
