anal closure slow to heal

My anal incision is still draining a little as it has not closed up yet. The doctor said that it might take awhile, but I was wondering how long it took most peoples to close up.

I am nearing the sixth week mark and hubby is looking forward to intercourse but wondering if it is safe to have it (gently of course) while there is still an opening in anal incision. Not sure if we can wait until it is completely healed if that is going to take 2 more months. Thoughts?

Hi..I know it can be difficult to heal...it's in a dark place without alot of air so mother nature has to really work hard.

My surgeon sent me to a wound care place to have special stuff (silver cell) inserted into the inclosure to help it heal along sterilizedwater irrigated.

Lots of sitzs baths too.

Personally, I wouldn't have intercourse until it completely heals. It could get infected or torn or both.

Although Sex was the last thing on my list post collectomy (I was still very single back then) I can remember having a hemovac pluged into the scar (sucked the puss/fluids/gunk right out of there) and my mommy dearest used an old trick from the maternity ward where she had worked (for the episiotomies) and put lamps on it (heat lamp on LOW...you do not want to burn down there...if you do not have a heat lamp (and who does these days?) you can use a blow dryer on low heat to help the area dry better and not go yeasty or yuckie...
Sitz baths with epsom salts and sleeping without unddies so that it breaths down there..just put a patch on your stoma and let the rest go free!
As for the sex...how much fun are either of you going to have if you are worried about splitting something open? Or ripping it apart?
You may try to set up a sort of 'spin the bottle' sex game (spin the syringe?) where you list differnt stuff that you both like to do to/with eachother that does not include penetration...everything goes, but, kind of game (imagine that you are still a virigin and intend to stay that way until you are healed!)
I know how hard this period is due to the fact that you are starting to feel better, the worst is over and the pain is gone so you want the rest to go back to normal...but trust me...That is one zone that you really do not want to rush...it can be very vengeful when bothered before it is ready.
Now would be a good time to invest in funny-sex-toys like feathers, lace and anything that is soft and delicate...and do not forget the lube...you may need it for quite a while...many of us do.
Don't forget to laugh while you are at it...
Sharon

It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....

Thanks girls! I will wait (I am ok with this but hubby will be a little disappointed). I will try sitz baths and sleeping bottomless to help aid things along.... I guess a little patience goes a long way! Smiler
