Lately I have been having trouble getting a good night sleep because of poor eating habits late in the evening. Waking up with horrible gas pains has led me to put an ostomy pouch over the tube which is inserted then going back to bed. This has allowed the food and gas to move through while I'm sawing ZZZZZZs. Hey it works and the pouches are left overs. Has anyone had to do this?

Also is there anyone out there who does not use the sink to clean their tube? How in the world if you are stuck on a boat with no sink next to the toilet can you clean your tube without putting it into the toilet water and blowing the stool through with the syringe. The whole toilet bowl thing is so gross. Today I am going to carry some water in a small specimen container with my 30cc syringe and try to accomplish the entire emptying procedure without using a sink or toilet water.

It doesn't matter where I am, this is what I do:

I have a cup (container, whatever) and fill it with water so I have it handy to irrigate if necessary. If I am traveling or where the water is not drinkable (airplane, train etc)I carry in a bottle of water.

I make sure there is enough water left to squirt through the catheter with the syringe at least twice. That way when I use the sink later to wash the cath all the really yucky stuff has been flushed (literally).

There have been times when the foods I've eaten in the evening have gotten me out of bed to empty my pouch during the night. In 20+ years it never ocurred to me to leave my cath in overnight...and even now I would prefer to get up and just empty..

Other than that..are you good?
Leslie
