Ok, I am not ringing an alarm bell, yet...but this is the third or fouth time that I wake up and have to search for the direction of the valve to get the tube in...it takes about a minute or two...I hold my breath and pray it is all a big joke and will resolve itself....and then I get the tube in..never in the same direction twice....usually in the morning when I get up after having slept on my side or when there is lots of backup..But it is not normal to have it happening again..is the pouch/valve shifiting?
I am staying calm but it is happening more often and it hurts when I push it in the wrong direction....also can happen in the daytime after a meal... I refuse for this to be the begining of another problem..not sure if I could survive another one! Sharon It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here.... |

I can't help you with your question, Sharon. But I hope and pray that it is not another problem for you!!
Good luck!! "To a mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders." |

Sharon, glad the alarms aren't sounding yet.
I have had a partially slipped valve for the past 16 months. I've noticed that intubating can be tricky. One trick that sometimes works for me is to take a nice breath, and as I exhale, slide the catheter in. I've been using lots of lube and the cath doesn't always go in the same way for me as well. When I intubate, I sit straight up. No more slouching. Seems to help. You may be doing this already, but this is what I can offer. Kock 1979; end ileo 2003; Kock 2006 |

In my opinion, Dr. Joel Bauer, M.D, associated with Mt. Sinai Hospital in NYC is one of, if not the BEST surgeons when it comes to either Koch Pouch/K-Pouch surgery or J-Pouch surgery. He has a great deal of experience and surgical knowledge and expertise in terms of abdominal surgery of all types. In my experience, he is excellent in regard to Koch Pouch surgery. I would highly recommend Dr.Bauer , whether you are getting a new 'pouch' procedure or need any type of revision surgery related to an existing Koch Pouch or J-Pouch. Dr. Bauer is very experienced in creating a strong, continent 'valve', which is so important for the Koch Pouch procedure. He has given me my life back in this regard. IMO, the he is BEST. As mentioned , his years of surgical experience and his desire to help patients with complex major surgical issues related to K-Pouches, the J-Pouch and many other aspects of abdominal surgery make him an excellent choice for anyone requiring this type of surgical procedure or revision surgery.

I've got a great k pouch surgeon in Toronto..Dr. Cohen at Mt Sinai..but I live in Paris so I don't exactly get to see him every time I have a problem...I've got a French dr who knows what is going on a fixes the hernia but doesn't touch the pouch...I wrote to dr C today to let him know what is going on and that I will be in Toronto early next year for a visit and a check up if possible...for the moment it is an on/off problem...not constant just occasional..hopefully it is the muscle healing and sliding into place..just had a huge post dinner buldge over the pouch and then a super cramp on top of it..herina repair pain? As long as the hernia holds I am happy...and as long as the valve holds too!
