Hysterectomy after kpouch - anyone?Go ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
I am facing a hysterectomy. I am curious if anyone has had this done after the kpouch and, if so, did you have any problems? My valve is disconnected from the original location but I have no probs with interbation or continence. I realize that no one can guareentee me that the pouch will not move, I just wanted to get feedback. I am very worried that if it moves it will upset the location of the valve. My colorectal surgeon will also be present and the Urologic Surgeon will sling my bladder. Janice; If you haven't been to the BCIR.COM web site, please go there and ask your question. You are looking at a much larger audience than either the UOAA or KPOUCH webs. It's relatively easy to sign up and be able to post there. Ray

The awesome Dr Worsey emailed me back immediately and said one of their kpouch patients just had a hysterectomy and has had no probs. He said as long as there is a colorectal surgeon should be on the surgical team to move the pouch aside and assist on any repair (a nic, for ex) if needed. Other then that the pouch should not be affected. But, maybe someone with a kpouch will still reply. I have posts out there...I prefer a kpouch member as a bcir is a bit different. I had a hysterectomy done in 2002 and just my uterus removed and my bladder put in a sling. The Mayo Clinic told me the Kock Pouch is in a different area tham the uterus and bladder. I was told my regular Gynocologist could do the surgery with no problems. I had an incision right at the hair line and it didn't interfer with my Kock Pouch. They are in different cavities. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Always remember....After the storm there's a beautiful rainbow. 1977, September a Brooke Ileostomy (allergic to adhesives); 1978, May a Kock Pouch

Janice, I had severe salpangitis due to an ectopic pregnancy in 93 and they had to go in and work on the right tube/uterus..the surgeon assured me that there was 'no conflict of interest' with the K pouch which also happened to be down...so he hitched the pouch back up, worked on the tube and closed me up. He said that they were not touching so that there was no reason to have worried. Good luck and also ask about post hysterectomy treatment for hormones or not with a K pouch... Sharon It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here....

Hi girls...great news. I was worried if my pouch moves, maybe the valve will too and it's already not where it's supposed to be but working fabulously. I am post menopaused three years and my bioidentical hormones caused my lining to thicken etc. And now I have a mess in there. Not sure if they can do lapro or open will see what gyno says..... They opened me up, I just went to a small town hospital. I wouldn't want a lapro done at the hospital I went to, no one even knows what a Kock Pouch is in this area. My pouch is 32 years old and I am post-menopausal. I do take estrogen and progesterone, synthetic type oral; I feel I need my bones, muscles, tendons, connective tissue and skin to be in it's best shape it can be with a Kock Pouch. I use compounded estrogens in cream form for the vaginal area, sorry if this is too much information, but I need to keep everything healthy to keep my pouch functioning. Which in "my opinion" means, connective tissue, muscles, tendons, etc; so I do what I can to ensure my Kock Pouches longevity. I think this may also be of interest for J-pouchers. They need their pelvic floor muscles working good for good control, for bathroom visits. This message has been edited. Hi Jasmine..the forum can't be TMI...that's what it's for! I thank you for your reply. I took bioidentical hormones after menopause and I felt so much better BUT they caused my uterine lining to thicken, spotting, bring back the fibroids and cysts. But, now I have vag atrophy along with bladder issues from the inflammation of lack of estrogen, so am allowed estrace vag cream and then oral estrogen after hyster! I'm also with you on the lapro...not a candidate for it, both the gyno and colorectal surgeons laughed at the thought of attempting that. But, to spare me another open abdominal surgery, the gyno is going to do it vaginally. I went to urologist and had a cystoscopy in office. The great news is that my bladder looked great and he thinks once my uterus is out, it will be able to extend when full reducing my leakage when I stand. It hasn't dropped yet so he doesn't need to sling it right now. But, offered if needed in the future. I have surgery on May 13th. I am praying my kock pouch valve function is not affected. KP surgeons say to relax about it but after 28 yrs with this awesome valve, it's hard to do that. Had my hyster Fri....my kpouch seems uneffective! yeah! I did have another adrenal crisis so that added some drama to the healing but doing better. I'm on ibruprofen for pain. It was a vaginal hyster...my cervix was extremely tight and they obviously encountered scar tissue, but got it out safely. couldn't readily see ovaries but i am 3 yrs post menopause and they looked ok with calcified cysts on cts so just left them to shrivel up for good.
