OK, so I"m set up to have my new k-pouched scoped by Dr Shen (my GI) in september. Because I have crohns I guess they want to keep a close eye on it. I'm kinda nervous and I'll tell you why.
I've had my ileo scoped twice, and my j-pouch scoped and the only thing that hurt was the insane amount of AIR they pump into you. With the j-pouch and the ileo it wasn't a problem to expel, but I've got some concerns about trying to get my cath in after the camera is removed to get all the air out. Anyone have this done? And what do you do about it? thanks -- katie |

Hey Katey,
From what Leslie has said it's a cakewalk. I am sure she will chime in here soon to give you the down low!Good luck. |

I have had my K-pouch scoped, and yes - they put a bit of air in - but they let it all out before they removed the scope. Just tell them you want them to make sure to leave you 'air-free'. ;-)

yea, they pump quite a bit of air in there, and no, they dont' always let it all out before they're done.
even if they do let it out, you can still be quite uncomfortable after the camera is out. (i.e. not painful really, just rrreeeeaaalll uncomfortable) i intubated pretty much immediately after the scope was out. right there in the doctors office. figured i can listen and intubate at the same time. or, it gave the doc time to print up his pics, and type up his report. but i definitely needed to. i was rumbly as hell. but yea, definitely ask em to release as much of that air as he can before finishing |

When Dr. Fazio has done the scope it's been a "cake walk". He's got the smaller instruments so that it isn't uncomfortable....I would think Dr. Shen would use the same.
I was left with air and had to intubate afterwards so you may have to. Kock 1979; end ileo 2003; Kock 2006 |

It is really painless, I had it done a couple of times. All you feel is a build up of air, but as everyone has said the doctor is able to release most of it. I had planned for a painful remainder of the day with gas, but had nothing on both occassions.

I think this may be the same as with a JPouch. Its different for each of us depending on how our anatomy has settled in. I can tell you that when Fazio and Shen have taken a look and blown me up with air, it was extremely uncomfortable. They tried to hurry through it as much as possible, but they could tell I was ready for the whole thing to be done. Fazio tried to remove the air, but there was definitely still some left in. It was uncomfortable with lots of rumbling until I emptied. Needless to say, Dr. Fazio understood, so I ran to the bathroom while he stayed and typed up notes and talked with my wife. Compared to everything else we have been through, its not the end of the world.
